Let No Man Steal Your Thyme
Sung by Carey Mulligan
Composed by Craig Armstrong
(C) 2015 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation

-- | LYRICS |--

Come all you fair and tender girls
That flourish in your prime
Beware, beware
Keep your garden fair
Let no man steal your thyme
Let no man steal your thyme.

For when your thyme it is past and gone
He'll care no more for you
And every place where your thyme was waste
Will all spread o'er with rue
Will all spread o'er with rue.

The gardener's son was standing by
Three flowers he gave to me
The pink, the blue, and the violet too
And the red, red rosy tree
And the red, red rosy tree.

But I refused the red rose bush
And gained the willow tree
That all the world may plainly see
How my love slighted me
How my love slighted me.

Also: there's a beautiful old Irish/Appalachian murder ballad called Down in the Willow Garden which I would LOVE to hear you do! :)

In ancient times, thyme was used to symbolize courage, bravery, and strength and by the medieval times, it was a common symbol of chivalry, so the title basically says 'let no man steal your courage'

I just want to say, I hope no man steals my thyme. I need it to make chicken soup.

You are really the best at old folk tale songs. You are a true songstress of the modern day. I can for sure, see you in an old tavern singing old songs from tales. Just like the Skyrim ones, in that theme. I wouldn't be surprised if I was the Dragonborn and saw you sharing songs in an Inn.

There is a celtic song: Siúil A Rún, I really love the song and it's story.
I don't know if you know it already, or if you like it, but it would be great if you'd sing it I think. Have a great day!

Ah, an another folk-song! Love it to pieces! Yep, you should check ballads from the "Poldark", there are few well-writted songs that match to your voice and style a lot.

I know you did a song for Outlander, the main theme, but I would love if you did the gaelic song the bard sung about the travelling person that talks about the main character. I think it's called The Woman of Balnain, seriously hearing a woman's voice to the song would just be beautiful. You are the reason I fell in love with the show. XD

Absolutely beautiful. I love the way you take the old ancient ballads and make them your own. I always watch for your new vids/music. I listen while at work. It helps get me through my day. Thank you. :-)

There isn't very much of it, but I'd love to hear your take on 'the Lay of Sir Savien Traviard' from 'The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss.
