Athenian: How many of you are hoplites?
Spartan: Yes

The symbol on the shield of the Spartans is not an inverted V, it´s the greek letter '' λαμδα'' (spelled ''lamda'') which is basically the letter ''L'' and stands for ''Lakedaimon'' which is what the Spartans called themselfs and the name of their homeland ''Lakedaimonia'' .The official name of the area of the Southeast of Peloponysus is even today ''Lakedaimonia''.
Also ''οπλιτης'' (''hoplite'') means literally: '' he who bears arms/weapons''.

A little correction:
The sacred band of Thebes was made up of 150 pairs of men, who fought in unison, so it was actually ~300 men

Talking about the Hoplites made me remember something. Could you do an episode on the Roman Axillary corps?

"Inverted V" no, that's a lambda.

The inverted "V" is a Lamda, a greek "L", standing for "Lakedaimon", the region where Sparta was founded.

All nice but seriously the "spartan inverted v"?!?
The Λ is a lambda the greek L, Sparta wasn't called in this way in ancient times the city was known as λακεδαιμονία [Lakedaemonia].

My brain: "Yo, I see you are not sleeping..."
Me: "What now?"
My brain: "Do you remember an old Greek video you used to watch about 10 years ago?"
Me: "I need to sleep. This is madness."
My brain: "Madness..."
