What is Strabismus Surgery?

Strabismus is caused by a lack of coordination between the eyes and they become misaligned as a result. In children, this misalignment can cause the brain to favor one eye over the other. If this continues, the eye that the brain ignores will begin to lose its ability to see. This loss of vision is called amblyopia, and it is frequently associated with strabismus. Fortunately, doctors have developed a surgical technique that can correct strabismus. Watch the video to learn about the different forms of the strabismus and how we treat them.

I had strabismus in my left eye since I was little and left untreated due to financial problem and lack of resources, and now I'm 22, it bothers me because I can't even have an eye to eye contact with other people and can't properly socialize because of bullying. watching this video gives me hope that one day my eye will be corrected.

I've had this surgery - I slept a lot in the first few days because its just too annoying or painful to keep your eyes open. It basically felt like I had largr grains of sand in my eyes constantly. After the initial few days I started opening and using my eyes more and things soon went back to normal. It greatly reduced my chronic migraines which I had derived from my eyes constantly slouching out of position. Don't be afraid, it'll all be fine. ♡

I had a strabismus in my right eye since I was a child and I am 25 now. All my life I thought there is no cure and I have to live with it for the rest of my life. But just recently I discovered that it can be fix. I didn’t think twice the next day I did the surgery and now here I am 11 days after the surgery never been better. My eyes are perfectly aligned and so happy with the results 😊

I had this surgery in 1984 aged 3. Spent 2 weeks after in children’s ward, being pampered, then glasses until age 12. I started to require glasses again at 28 and now, 40, even with glasses I have a tendency to close one eye, and will be having further surgery soon. But the surgery then definitely did an excellent job and changed my prospects and I’m thankful. And that was decades ago!!! Modern surgery isn’t even a worry. All the best to those with kids who need this. Don’t worry! xxx

I had to have this surgery as a kid. I left the hospital with “goop” all over my eyes, I think it was Vaseline to keep everything moist, and I had my eyes shut for a day or two. I opened my eyes gradually and I was normal after a few days. I even got a shirt from my hospital ❤️

My surgery is in July. I'm so excited. I'm tired of cruel people bullying me because of my eyes. Some people like it and think it's cute but I feel once I started to get uncomfortable and not confident and it's started to cause issues with my daily activities that's when I decided to do something about it. May God be with us all who have this issue and are or would like to get it corrected. Our confidence will rise for us personally. 🙏🏾 I wasn't born with it so Doc said you can wake up one day and your brain can just decide it doesn't want to support your eye muscles anymore and that will suddenly happen. I can also happen through traumatic situations or even an injury to the head or something. People are so cruel, they don't know how this stuff can happen to them tomorrow. Stay strong, we are definitely favored and beautiful ❤

I was born cross-eyed and have had a total of 3 surgeries done. I'm 15 now and hopefully they can do one last one to correct my right eye. I'm doing some research on this to learn more information on the surgery.

So I've had this surgery done twice on me once when I was in 2nd grade the other in 4th. So I had what you call Extropia which is a type of Strabismus meaning my eye would drift outward randomly. But now after the surgery it pretty much went away like I've grown out of it, I mean I can still do it but on control it rarely happens on its own, and if it does happen it's usually only when I'm staring into space or super relaxed but other than that I've got it under control and it's just nice to see a video about it.

I had inward strabismus and had surgery as a kid. It fixed the problem beautifully. Now at 38, I'm experiencing an outward strabismus and its knocking my confidence and my depth perception. Also when i talk to people who are a few feet away, they turn around to look who im talking to. Its so embarrassing. I hope to have it corrected soon.

Hi, I'm 56 years old, and I have this condition. I first had it in my right eye which was corrected 2 years ago, and then my left eye started to wander. I'm having this corrected the day after tomorrow so once again I will be able to see without double vision!!

I’ve had the surgery when I was seven. We also tried the non-surgical way as well, I remember wearing some patches which was weird to me. But then it was necessary to correct it with surgery as a last resort. I remember not being able to open my eye for nearly 2-4 weeks
