hm. After 4 years of vision therapy (and a lot of $ spent) 1 40 minute surgury corrected my vision. I did a lot of research and the most effective treatment for a "lazy eye" is strabismus surgury. You are only partially correct about the brain controlling the eye. If you have a serious deviation, when you are tired your brain will not correct your vision and you will see double. Surgury puts the eye closer if not exactly in place and relieves the stress caused by constantly physically correcting your deviation. Once surgury is done, your brain will learn to correct any minor deviation back to binocular vision in a matter of weeks. I don't think therapy alone can correct a significant deviation.

Thank you so much this is exactly what I needed to know. Myself and 3 kids suffer from this and the doctor brought up surgery for my 13 year old. I will be getting all the kids vision therapy instead.

my 3 year old just went to a pediatric eye specialist yesterday because his right eye drifts outward pretty far. they said that in his right eye he is a -1.5 so that he needs glasses, and the Dr. said that he needed to have the surgery done to correct the outward turning of the eye. is there anything else that can be done other than surgery to help that or is it best to get it fixed now? I'm a nervous wreck and the surgery is 2 weeks away. we are trying to research as much as we can before hand

I had my strabismus surgery on the 26 of April 2017. I now have a cyst on the out corner of my left eyeball. I saw my surgeon and he said if it doesn't clear up in 3 weeks with antibiotic ointment he prescribed me post-op then he'd have to take care of it? what dose that mean?

I'm cross-eyed as it gets. As well, glaucoma is at play in the same eye. So, in three weeks I'm having this procedure. I'm sure hoping it works because looking at the world with crossed eyes hasn't been fun.

Does the "eye turning" hurt? post-surgery, how they may turn upwards, downwards, or sideways. Also, you say it is common, but how common? My doctor never warned me about this.

My son is 4 years old and has a muscle weakness in both eyes. I went to 2 doctors and both said he needs this surgery. The difference between them one said i should do it now it gives a better result, and the other said i should wait until 8 years old or older. What would your advice be? Should i do it now at 4 years old or wait
