Your video essays are criminally underappreciated, you might be one of the best doing this on youtube right now

It's a James Bond homage. No one cares about Bond's interior life (something the recent films have forgotten to their disadvantage). So it's part of the genre is that we don't need to know the Protagonist's backstory. I thought it was enormous amounts of fun and isn't that what really matters?

The one thing I know for sure about the Protagonist is he ordered his hot sauce an hour ago.

We never met the Protagonist...we met his precursor. Neil illuminated the emotional depth of the character with the Bromance so artfully revealed at the end. "We get up to some stuff...you're gonna love it."

It's not only that. Many times, in Nolan films we don't get to see the protagonist's life in detail, and that is fine. He shows more than people notices, and with care and attention, you can spot them. In regards to the assertion that this is supposed to be a spy film wrapped in Nolan is also fine. It's that the protagonist is not even there. He is absolutely amorphous and has no continuity or consistency in his actions, motivations or even his character. Take the plot to save Kat for example. Suddenly, with the fate of the world ticking away, this man feels the need to save a woman who he barely knows. This is a man who was willing to bite down into a cyanide pill in the beginning of the movie, a man focused on the completion of the mission. That is how he is introduced. Yet somehow, he wants to endanger his life for Kat at this point, when they have the artifact and have no reason to undergo this risk. If in service of the plot and the movie, it works, but it just obliterates the protagonist. And in fact, things like this destroyed the movie for me, because I felt like no one really felt serious about this central problem they were all trying to collectively deal with. The threat of the world ending did not feel genuine. Kat later goes 'fuck it' and kills Sator prematurely. No one cares about anything in this movie, or remotely shows that they feel the stakes at hand.

Incredible perspective on tenet. Felt the same way. Nolan refusing to even give him a name in the script makes it seem very intentional

See, his every film has pushed our expectations from him above n above, nd now if his 1 movie is not as great as his portfolio, that means We resonate with him❤️, this is because we Expect from him. And this is the biggest proof that he is the Director with whom we all r standing 🔥.

We know he would give his own life to protect his friends. We know he has strong morals( protecting kat) and we know his main purpose in life is to save the world. Seems like a much better human than cobb, who acted selfishly and risked the lives of his friends. I had no problem with the lack of character development. We've become too used to one way of telling a story.

Excellent video! Im a big Nolan fan and I too was a bit "confused" with what I thought about Tenet, this surely helped me to figure it out better! You got yourself a new sub sir! Very good content, keep it up

Amazing video! I personally loved tenet, it blew my mind and I even watched it again after a few weeks. There is one detail in particular that is right in your face at the second viewing (spoiler: it’s something with the first backwards guy we see in the opera

The thing is Tenet is a spy movie, he works with the genre tropes, making it more of a bond movie than like his other films, I also don’t think The Protagonist is the real protagonist of the movie, ironically Neil/Max ends up being the one you learn a lot about it you spend the time to piece together his storyline, and I felt much more invested in him and Kat, the movie has a different goal in mind, definitely not my favorite Nolan movie either, but people I think are missing the point that it’s supposed to be different, whether or not you like that is fine
