0:00 Tenet Hidden Details Breakdown
0:19 Easter Eggs
7:00 Outro

Ok so if you followed the channel in 2020 then you'll know that we talked about Tenet pretty much every other week and though we thought that we'd picked the film completely dry of all it's easter eggs, having gone back to it I've now found some brand new amazing details in it.

Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking it all down so come with us Protagonist viewer as we go over everything we unearthed on our latest viewing.

Now the colours blue and red are laced throughout the entire film and these help to let us know whether the characters are moving forwards and backwards through time. The colours are used heavily in the interrogation room and they're also present on the Tenet teams watches and armour.

Beyond that though these colours are present throughout the film and they show up in the first few seconds with the Warner Brothers logo being red and the syncopy logo being blue.

Cat also wears a Blue dress when the Protagonist meets her and later on in the movie she wears Red when she starts to turn more and more against her husband.

During the heist sequence we watch as The Protagonist tries to steal part of the Algorithm and he moves in on a Red Fire Engine whilst the device itself is placed onto a blue Armounred Truck. He also rides a blue boat with Sator and Kat later and he turns this against the path hinting towards the changes in direction that people later take against the flow of time.

When The Protagonist arrives waits in the van with the SWAT team at the start we see other vans pull up and you can see their sirens flashing Blue and Red on the top. That's probably coincidental but the badge on the truck is actually Red with Blue in the middle of it. This badge is what the Protagonist uses when he ends up infiltrating the Opera House and there's quite another subtle detail here.

When we first see the lineup of SWAT Team members all of their visors are steamed up due to their breaths whereas the Protagonists isn't.

This is also likely because he'd only put his mask and helmet a couple of minutes before whereas the actual SWAT Team had likely had theirs on whilst riding out to the location.

When Neil saves his life in this opening the seat with the reversing bullet is also blue and when the Protagonist runs out the Opera we can see that there is a big red sign beside them.

Now the train station also has a lot of imagery here including a big red train that appears in the scene. There are also some moving forwards on the line whilst others move back and this of course foreshadows how time will be moving in two opposite directions in the film.

It's at this point that The Protagonist takes a cyanide pill but we later learn it's actually a dud that works less than I do watching movies all day.

I love this movie. The interesting part of this movie in my mind is the fact that even though it appears as a thriller with an evil villlian going to end the world and a hero struggling to keep that from happening, it all illusion. There was never any point in the movie where the villain was going to win and there was never any point where the hero was going to fail. Everything that happened in the movie had actually already happened, so it was completely determined before the movie even started. Normally, this would kill the tension of the movie, but the deterministic nature of the movie was camouflaged in all the misdirection of the movie with the core concept of hidden information. In fact the algorithm, the McGuffin of the movie, was a key element of the misdirection of this movie. The algorithm never actually mattered because it would never have changed the outcome, but it kept us from looking too closely at what was happening right in front of us. This movie is such a masterpiece of misdirection, and for this reason, I consider this one of the best time travel movies ever made.

I love how much you keep paying homage to Tenet by still making videos about it! It’s a masterpiece… the movie is SO underrated since they released it at a horrible time due to covid. :/

On the ship, Kat tells the protagonist she fears never seeing her son again. He cuts a side glance at Neil and then assures her that she will see her son again.

This is one of the most underrated movies in recent years. Do to sadly opening in 2020. The Future will be kind to this when the Past wasn’t.

I will never get enough of your tenet videos….they got me hooked on your channel. One of the best yet under-rated Nolan movies.

The helicopters used in the battle at the end of the movie are the Boeing CH-47 Chinook, which not only has a "forward and backward" overall look to it, but also has rotors which spin in opposite directions, one going clockwise and the other going counterclockwise.

I watched this for the first time just a couple months ago, and it was one of the most mentally intense I'd watched in ages. I love the details, especially about the colors. Makes me want to watch again.

Honest to God I have watched your other video explaining Tenet literally 10 times, and I'm still lost. One day I will get this movie.... one day

i’m so glad to finally see someone addressing that the pill was never going to work for sator. that’s been bugging me since my second viewing, and your explanation on how it was meant to be kat thereby not messing up the timeline finally resolved it for me.

I feel like Tenet will go down as a cult classic, and will eventually be regarded as one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. It's a shame it got so much hate when it came out!

I love the fact that at the end, Neil tells The Protagonist (TP), "Yeah, we get up to some stuff. You're gonna love it."

Signaling how, though they seems the same age as us viewers view the film and thereby by proxy TP, Neil basically affirms that in lieu of his actual Father not being present through his Life, that not only is he a good Buddy for adventures "down the road, " but indeed looks up to TP as a Father Figure. Except the twist being two-fold in that he (Neil) "got" to see the peak version of his Dad finally after traversing backwards in The Flow of time for an untold number of years (obviously off screen).

I’ve got a few good ones I haven’t heard from anyone else. You can pretty much pause this movie on any frame and see notice some detail you didn’t see before.

The clock at 7:53 and 13:23 are almost inverted images of each other

Around 15:00, the scientist teaches TP about inversion by reversing footage on a camera, foreshadowing the actual techniques used in the film

at 20:30, Neil and TP use the inverted bungee jump to ascend, which employees music which accelerates to a climax of silence (which Ludwig Goransson described as a technique used to emphasize music being backwards) which mirrors the moment at 2:16:45 where Sator is pushed off the boat, falling (opposite of the inverted bungie jump) marked by the same sort of silent climax in the music and follows the theme of the whole movie being a palindrome with its timing being around 14 minutes before the end of the run time

The conversation between TP and Sir Michael seems to imply that Sir Michael is Ives because Sir Michael is the only character which informs TP that the battle of Stalsk-12 and the opera siege occur at the same time, as well as having knowledge of underground tests. Given Sir Michael’s age and knowledge of the Tenet operation, it is unlikely that this information would be entrusted to anyone beside Neil, Ives, and TP as anyone with knowledge of what happens under Stalsk-12 is meant to be killed. Sir Michael’s attitude towards TP is also similar to that displayed at the end of the Red Room/Blue Room scene when TP decides to invert.

the plane that is crashed is a 747, a palindromic number

at 35:45 when Neil is touring the freeport, there is a red shipping container that says “Oslo” which could be the container TP and Neil use later, and at 35:50, there is another two white boxes labeled “Oslo” and “Tallinn” Here you can see different Rotas logos for each freeport

at 40:44, the unnamed Tenet operative on the plane steals a gold bar; on Sator’s yacht, we see one of Sator’s goons killed for stealing a gold bar

at 44:10, there is a red stripe and matching blue stripe on the walls outside the turnstile, as well as red and blue squares and red and blue windows on the doors matching the red and blue rooms that will later be more obvious at the second freeport

At 49:10, we get what I think is the best moment of the entire film when TP says “I would rather it be my decision” and Neil says “So would I” speaking of the Neil’s death. On second viewing, this becomes more meaningful. The conversation leading to this moment appears at first to be TP explaining inversion to Neil, but on second viewing it becomes clear that Neil is pretending not to understand and then begins to explain inversion more accurately. Seeing that Neil is now more aware at this point than he lets on, we can realize that Neil could be aware of his upcoming death and wishes that he had more agency. Refering to his final dialogue with TP, we learn that Neil doesn’t actually have agency, that being aware of his death does not give him the ability to change it. Another layer could be the possibility that future TP did plan for Neil, but current TP does not yet have this information.

At 1:27:15, we see Neil begin to become angry that TP described his conduct as “standard operating procedure” even though later, he tells TP that “the policy is to suppress” essentially the same idea. It seems that in this case, his anger is because TP lie appears to be the cause of Kat being shot. After TP advocates for saving Kat’s life and explains they can use the turnstile at the Oslo freeport, Neil becomes less angry and supports the idea of saving Kat’s life. This exchange supports the idea that Neil is actually Kat’s son, as, following the theme of suppressing information, future TP wouldn’t have informed Neil of his mom being shot, just like Neil didn’t tell TP he was fighting himself. This information could cause the characters to act differently and the scene reflects these principles. Further evidence for Neil being Kat’s son is the care he gives to Kat while traveling back to Oslo while TP sits by. Finally, at 2:24:10, it’s Neil’s voice we hear as TP watches Kat walk off with her son. This is the first and only time in the film that we would hear a narrator, a technique which would not make sense to employ at the very end unless it is meant to hint at a something deeper. It would make sense that this is Neil narrating as his is technically on screen, just a younger version of himself.
At 1:52:45, Neil also knows the date and location of current Sator when Sator finally dies. While it’s possible someone told him, a simpler explanation is that he knows the date because he is Sator and Kat’s son, and that is why he refuses to tell TP and Kat why he knows it.

At 1:49:18, Priya says “mission accomplished” to TP. At the end when TP kills Priya, he also says “mission accomplished”

At 2:17:35 there is another instance of symmetry where Neil save TP and Ives by dragging them with a car, while Kat kills Sator and drags his body through the water with a boat

Referencing the scenes at 28:20 and 1:54:40, the track “BETRAYAL” is playing in both and the lighting, color, and tone of dialogue match perfectly. At the end of the dinner scene, TP tells Kat he could be her second chance at betrayal, and the scene on the Priya’s boat is a way of recalling that message and foreshadowing the successful betrayal of Sator

This is one of the best movies, ever! My thought is how some people didn't notice people running backwards in certain areas, especially the airport fight scene.

Loved Tenet when i watched it, but i enjoyed it a lot more the 2nd time. I really think Christopher Nolan is up there with the best. Loved all 3 Batman films, Interstella, inception and i really enjoyed the prestige too.

In the scene where Sator & the protagonist are in different rooms & times, Nolan didn't reverse the Sator's sentences, but instead, Kenneth Brannagh really learned and said the sentences backward.
