🔴 LIVE - Orion spacecraft performs a close moon approach of the lunar surface on its way to a distant retrograde orbit, a highly stable orbit thousands of miles beyond the Moon. During the Artemis I flight test, launched on Nov. 16, Orion will travel 280,000 miles (450,000 km) from Earth and 40,000 miles (64,000 km) beyond the far side of the Moon, carrying science and technology payloads to expand our understanding of lunar science, technology developments, and deep space radiation.

Through Artemis missions, NASA will land the first woman and the first person of color on the Moon, paving the way for a long-term lunar presence and serving as a steppingstone to send astronauts to Mars. We are going.

For everyone complaining about the quality of the video - there is a huge difference between the resolution CAPTURED and the resolution that can be STREAMED in real time. You are seeing real-time streaming video from further than the moon. It's not going to be 8K. But the full high res video is captured and will be sent back over time and become available then. Just slow your roll.

This takes me back a long way I watched Neil Armstrong step on the moon and seeing it now almost brings me to tears. I even built a very large Saturn 5 rocket that stands in my front yard

Nice to see the Far side of the moon illuminated, since we are so close to New Moon. It's hard to believe that the moon can project a shadow that far into empty space during a solar eclipse.

Amazing. I'm shocked that people I try to talk to about it at work have zero interest (most anyway). I can't get enough of this, so so cool thank you!!

I never thought I would see us go to the moon. My dad loved the OG Mercury & Apollo missions. Edit, i forgot to send love to the GeminiMissions too! But I've been suspicious for awhile that it may have played a part in him joining the Navy and later pursue a career in Engineering/ Drafting. I have been crying watching this knowing he would have watched every second of this and brought up countless stories of where he was when NASA did...He unfortunately passed 1.5 years ago way, way to young. I Love you Dad. I Hope God gave you a front row seat to this! THANK YOU NASA!!

Very nice to be around the moon again. Politics has prevented this for 50 years. Great job NASA, Lockheed and ESA.

For the people complaining about it looking bad, the ship is 1, 500 miles above the moon, and sending signal back to earth.
Earth is over 240, 000 miles away from the moon.

Also, why it is lower quality compared to apollo is because it is much higher up.

Hi everyone,
In that position, that means than the landing will be in the dark side ?
