JEM'HADAR: Cultural Index

The Dominion wouldn't be half as powerful if it weren't for its imposing military. It's strength lies in its rapid production of powerful vessels and more importantly, rapid production of troops. The Jem'Hadar.
Under the complete control of the Vorta and the Founders, this species has only one purpose. Victory.
For them, it is life.

This is the Cultural Index a series aimed at exploring various Science-Fiction species.
For outsiders to a series to get to know the basics and maybe even hardened Sci-fi nuts might discover something new.
Thanks for watching!

How to VOTE on what happens next:
Over on the Community tab there will be a voting option for one of the two species next up on the Index!

"I am Chief Miles Edward O'Brien. I am very much alive, and I intend to stay that way."

Best quote in DS9.

Dax: "how old are you?"
Jem'Hadar: *Proudly* "I am 8"
Dax: "...I would have guessed 15"
Jem'Hadar: "15? few live that long, if we live to 20 we become honoured elders"
Jem'Hadar: "..how old are you?"
Dax: "I stopped counting at 300"
Jem'Hadar: *shocked pikachu face*

One of my favourite scenes in DS9 :')

The Jem'Hadar are my favorite bad guys. They suffer from the same situation as the Clone Troopers in Star Wars. No knowledge of their past and no hope for a future except to fight and die in wars that are not their own. A truly tragic race.

He does not have to EARN my respect. He has HAD it, from the moment I was conceived. I am a Jem’Hadar, HE is a Vorta. It is the order of things.

And do you really wish to give up your life for the “order of things?”

It was not my life to give, commander. It never was.

I’d love to see some Stargate races on the Cultural index. The Wraith, the Gou’ald, the Asgard, etc.

They have long reaching empires and societies and would make for very interesting viewing as subjects of the series.

I think the Jem'Hadar were made from the Tosk alien that came from the Gamma Quadrant. He was genetically made as well. It wouldn't be much effort for the Founders to find out the process and make the alterations to make their soldiers.

Another great index, I think the idea of trying to create the "perfect soldier race" is fascinating, the Founders went a pretty twisted but arguably effective route.

The personal eyescreens also allowed for the elimination of a structural weak point(windows and viewport). Actually kind of liked that element as it is rarely addressed in sci-fi.

Would love to see the Jem'hader go against Species 8472 and to see whose the "last man is?"

I loved seeing their comparisons and interactions with Klingons.

Jem'Hadar, "I am dead. As of this moment we are all dead."
Vorta, "I'm not dead yet. I'm getting better."
Jem'Hadar, "No you're not. You'll be stone dead in a moment."

A klingon fights for the honor of the Empire, their house, and themselves. Jem'hadar fight simply to win battle after battle for their gods/slave masters.

Such fabulous antagonists. They were unique and extremely well developed throughout the series arc. DS9 stood well on its own and unlike Voyager, didn't rip off or ruin TNG villains and storylines.

I think that with all the genetic modification you would think that the Founders would engineer a builder or construction race to make their cities and ships. Maybe we just haven't explored enough of Dominion space to find them

Somehow the whole idea reminds me of a samuri jack episode about archers that used a magic well to become great warriors but were mindless and sightless.

I love how the designed their faces. Like predators have forward facing eyes, prey side facing. These guys have such forward facing eyes they almost seem crosseyed

They’re soulless creatures. Fighting for no goal, no purpose except to serve the Founders. They take no pleasure in what they do. Nothing is glorified, nothing is affirmed. To the Jem’Hadar we are nothing more than… than targets to be destroyed! I must not let them destroy us!

What's interesting is comparing them to *Augments, * which were created with far less advanced technology.

Khan could slaughter one easily, now imagine if humanity hadn't become genetic engineering phobic after WW3, but had advanced the science and worked out the megalomania and increased aggression bugs - which were due to a faulty brain transmitter, not being superhuman.

So 21st century human genetic engineering was superior to the Jem'Hadar … (except for that one psychological glitch).

In fact genetically engineered humans were far superior to any other species genetic engineering efforts - just look at Julian Bashir, the stats he had improved (he didn't get everything upgraded, and he was poor starting material, which was the point) made him vastly better than any alien in that area - perfect memory of DNA charts he saw years ago, able to throw a bullseye every time without effort.

[And according to some beta canon, the cloaking ability was a invasive technological implant that only worked when the Jem'Hadar was calm, so they couldn't be cloaked in combat (imagine if a Vulcan had one fitted, or they just learnt Vulcan mental discipline… yeh, no)].

The part more else explains the Klingons contempt for them. In their minds, they are not a warriors but machines because they have no deeper purpose to their existence than fighting
