While I believe the “star date” system standardizes the Calander year for federation worlds, I think the B.S. explanation is that the universal translator always compensates the speech into something that’s relatable to the listener. So if Vulcan’s actual rotation around the sun took 1/12th longer than earth, the universal translator would just add that to the human scale for a year. The Vulcan would literally say, “I aged 1 year since you last saw me”, but you would hear, “I aged 1 year and 1 month since you last saw me” or however that math works out

His eyes when he realizes he's been casually chatting with (to him) an ageless immortal 😮

"You don't look it." With that look on his face. Just great.

I like how he says "8" with a hint of pride.

The immediate respect on his face, lol. A Jem'Hadar that had survived that long would be a myth on the level of Heracles or Odin.

Don't know who that actor is behind all that makeup, but, all the emotions he gave that latex. Amazing performance

I like how the jem'hadar are not mindless killing machines but sentient beings with a will and curiosity. Its The White that keeps them in line.

I had forgotten about this dialog.

The actor who plays the Jem' Hadar has these facial expressions, despite the makeup and prostethics...

Just awesome all around.

Star Trek REALLY taught tolerance for others in the most subtle, intriguing, and diverse ways.

This.. this was the moment the Jem'Hadar were given depth and flesh. We got to see them as beings intrigued by their surroundings, but at the same time, they were men on a mission - and that was fine with them. They had a culture, a set of Mores and Taboos, no matter what The Founders wanted.

Only Dax could flirt with a clone trooper

I’ll always respect how the writers gave Dominion races like the Jem’Hadar and the Vorta such depth without the cost of the kind of threat they actually are or represent.

There is something rather wholesome about this exchange, rather than enemies it's just 2 people from different species learning from each other.

I loved the expression when Jadzia said "I would have guessed 15." The Jem Hadar was like "15! That's crazy talk!"

Episode like this is why this show was so awesome. It's such a simple but perfect dialog

These are the best moments to me for any ST series… casual conversation between individuals of alien races, so very different, yet finding commonalities inherent in each other … with the background noise of the other characters working and touching the computer interfaces… the sounds of the digital notes for ever press and touching. It’s truly moments like this, for me, which completely immerse me in that world; it’s also why I love DS9, because this series may actually have the moments moment me like this, throughout the whole franchise.
