I did same but after shuting down machine, It returned back to previous resolution(1024*768)

It says "Unable to set resolution" even though it is exactly my screen resolution and i did install the vmware tool (9 months later i tried it again and it suddently worked)

for me the % Sudo caused a bash error no such job so I just had to remove the % then it worked thanks
