Hyperthyroid Treatments Explained (3 Stages)

A list of hyperthyroid treatments that are available to patients suffering from high thyroid or hyperthyroidism. There are 3 stages to treating hyperthyroidism and this video explains them.

Hyperthyroidism is a condition characterized by excessive thyroid hormone production from the thyroid gland. In other words, your body is producing TOO much thyroid hormone.

People ask me all of the time why I don't talk much about hyperthyroidism. The reason? Because most people who have hyperthyroidism end up with hypothyroidism and it has to do with the treatments available to hyperthyroid patients.

This video breaks down the 3 stages of hyperthyroid treatment including the temporary phase with the use of anti thyroid medications, the permanent phase, and then the post treatment phase.

The temporary phase is where you want to put most of your effort because you may be able to reverse your disease here.

If you wait too long then this may not be an option for you and you will end up causing permanent damage to your thyroid either with thyroid surgery or with radioactive iodine ablation.

This video was incredibly clear and helpful to me. I was recently diagnosed as hyper, with ultrasound and nuclear tests soon. I so appreciate the aggressive natural during phase 1 temporary guidance, since I've not felt right about the prospect of surgery or RAI. My sincere thanks for sharing your wisdom!

I have hyperthyroidism now going through this. My cousin got hers removed and I never will cause of what I've seen her go through. Either way this is the worste thing I've ever gone through. I am seeing a wellness doctor although very expensive I'm hoping eventually to be cured.

Thank you very much Dr Westin Child. My Dr never explained to me anything. I learnt a lot from watching your VDU. I cut out all dairy products, carbohydrates and gluten. I use essential oils if lavender, frankincense. I don't sweat anymore, I noticed my thyroid is getting smaller now. I take herbal tea : green tea, rosemary and thyme. My TSH, FT4 are normal now . Thanks again.

What a great video. This has clarified so much for me. I have been on the temporary medicine (carbomizole) for 1 month and feel so much better despite a little weight gain. I will start going through the natural route now. Thank you.

My hyperthyroidism went away with meditation years ago. I was one of those 30% lucky people. That was years ago. Now I feel like it’s come back. I feel the same symptoms 😭 but it’s ok. I will heal it myself naturally 🙌🏼

I recently been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism. A little history about me, I've been using steroids for over 20 years and I believe my Hyperthyroidism is do to that. I've been disgnosed with having low Testosterone due to my long time use of steroids which I shut my body's own production of Testosterone taking synthetic testosterone for many years. I have read online that high dosage of Testosterone can lower T-4 which converts into T-3 which mean less TSH. In all, my plans to treat my Hyperthyroidism is to to take testosterone to lower my T-4.

Thank you. My Doctors did not explain this at all. No surprise and it’s frustrating when they go from “hey meds aren’t working” to “let’s radiate, it’s the only other option” without any other context or explanation of what happens after ablation. Just that folks are “fine” and live fine without their thyroid 😢

I really appreciate you for informing us. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism on 9/11 and had to stop taking 15mg of Methimazole last month due to a sore throat. My test results showed that my WBC dropped from 5.0 to 3.7. My doctor is highly suggesting RIA, but I feel that it is too soon.

Thank you for the video Dr. Childs. If you have time, would you let me know the time span in which people can take methimazole. You mentioned that methimazole is not meant to be taken "longer time, " how long is "long term"?
