This burger from Dyer's Burgers in Memphis, TN is older than your grandfather. Well... unless your grandfather is over 100 years old. And part of what makes it SO old is the grease that it's cooked in. The grease hasn't been changed in 100 years. Gross, right?

“This, milord, is my family's axe. We have owned it for almost nine hundred years, see. Of course, sometimes it needed a new blade. And sometimes it has required a new handle, new designs on the metalwork, a little refreshing of the ornamentation . . . but is this not the nine hundred-year-old axe of my family? And because it has changed gently over time, it is still a pretty good axe, y'know. Pretty good.”
― Terry Pratchett, The Fifth Elephant

credit to the editor to actually showing two monsters that can be fused with polymerization during that segment. a lesser editor would have just picked some random cards based on the script mentioning yugioh, but going out of the way to make sure to show 2 that actually do fuse into another monster is *chef's kiss*.

Having worked in a few kitchens, I /doubt that NO ONE in the past 100 years has ever dumped the grease by mistake. Surely someone, at some point, has either lost their grip while pouring it or accidently kicked over the bucket. If that grease has somehow NEVER been accidently dumped, that must be the mother of all coincidences.

2:48 I had been sitting here for the last minute or two thinking "Okay, they HAVE to use this pun, it'd be criminal not to right? .... Right?" Glad you didn't let me down.

That tidbit about medieval inns making perpetual stew is grew material for worldbuilding in D&D! I gotta remember that!

2:05 Ship of Theseus or, if you’re from the UK, Trigger’s Broom (Santi if you’re confused just ask Tom 😉)

Sir do you know how many molecules are in that pan? There's probably at least 2 left that are the same, so it would TECHNICALLY have "the same molecules"

Can confirm, the bacon grease jar in my fridge has been passed down for generations

crazy how the guy forgot to clean accidnetly out the restaurant on the map and still probably only got a pat on the back for the millions they stood to make

I grew up on grease that was probably 100 years old. This tracks for me. I can say that if the grease was burned or fish was cooked in it they threw it out.

This is one of the four theory channels that are ACUALLY FUNNY! I really laughed at some of the jokes, to the point where I never miss a new episode with you as host, amazing Santi

In the UK, we refer to the "Ship Of Theseus" paradox as "Trigger's Broom." In the classic British sitcom "Only Fools and Horses, " the character Trigger (played by the late Roger Lloyd-Pack aka Barty Crouch Snr. in the Harry Potter film series) was gifted an award for "saving money" for Peckham Council by re-using the same broom for 20 years even though the broom had "17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time."

Years ago, while working at McDonald's, I learned of the 6 enemies of oil, remembered by CD WASH! Carbon (residue from old food), Detergent (cleaning powder that's not toxic, but won't taste good), Water (you don't want water in boiling hot oil), Air (oxidation as described in the video), Salt (oil vats right beside where you end up storing the fries before they're salted and bagged), and Heat (don't want to over heat or keep it under heated for too long).

I wouldn't compare it to the ship of Theseus, but to a river. It may not be the same water exactly, but you wouldn't say it's not the same river.

this sounds similar to something my mom does
whenever she cooks something in butter, and the meat (like steak) is served
she adds water, gives it a quick boil before putting it in a tiny bowl, let's it rest before putting it in the fridge after dinner
and then she'll heat it up and boil it again, when we have fish
and use it as a type of gravy for the fish
