'Broken down hack': Trump lambastes McConnell as calls grow for GOP Senate leader to step down

Some Republicans and conservative commentators are turning against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell ahead of November's midterms.

Senator McConnell recently cast doubt on whether Republicans will win the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections.

"I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different — they’re statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome," Senator McConnell said.

In a statement on Truth Social, former president Donald Trump lambasted Senator McConnell.

"Why do Republicans Senators allow a broken down hack politician, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage hard working Republican candidates for the United States Senate," Mr Trump wrote.
