True story 🗣️ a few days before the tsunami happened.. I had the strangest dream that I was in a foreign land close to the beach 🏖️… I was with some random family members walking away from the beach, down a busy street into town with various apartments and buildings on either side …🚶🏽‍♀️

I remember looking back and saw the water coming in a giant wave and gushes of water… 🌊 we ran together until we saw a tall church like building on our left that was colorfully designed with a dome like top .. almost like a mosque… we thought it might be tall enough to escape the water…we ran inside panicking and ran up a metal spiral staircase that went straight up to the dome 🏃‍♀️ 😱 the water flooded into the building quickly and rose up behind us… the water started touching our feet from below and we were stuck below the roof of the dome screaming right when I woke up 😥 also there was a terrible noise I can still faintly remember… loud rushing water, but this strange deep vibrating sound that kept repeating itself near the end of the dream 💭

When I saw the news of the tsunami days (or maybe a week) later … my heart truly went out to the ppl in the real tsunami because I remember the sheer feeling of terror in that dream 🙏🏾

Got caught in an undertow and spent like 30 minutes swimming until my lil sister swam out and told me to swim diagonally. Learned about undertows the next week at school I was pissed. Needed that info like 2 weeks earlier

I've watched the footage of the Boxing Day tsunami. The immediate aftermath is soul crushing. Over 200 thousand people died.

We were serving in Korea at the time and planned to arrive in Phuket, Thailand, on the day before the disaster… staying a week. Fortunately, there were no seats available on the flight. THAT was close! 🎉

Another occurrence was that after this tsunami devastating so many modern people officials fully expected that the North Sentinelese, an uncontacted tribe who makes it known they want to remain uncontacted on their island, would be fully wiped out. They sent helicopters to check only to receive the hail of spears and arrows as per usual. They knew the signs and moved to higher ground and likely suffered no losses. I know a few were deeply chagrined over it due to overconfidence, ego, and idiocy. I never knew so many people didn't know about the signs.

I was 44 in 2004, I live in a desert and I know the signs of a tsunami. I can't imagine the lack of education of people who live on an island of this danger
