For everyone wondering. This earthquake happened on December 5th, 2024, off the coast of Humboldt County, CA. It was a 7.0, and there were tsunami warnings issued, but they were canceled an hour later.

That’s what happened to our pool when the 7 point earthquake hit Similar Valley in the early 2000s. There were these huge waves in our pool!

It's amazing how that large volume of water can be moved around like that while you struggle to notice the ground around you shaking. What scared me when I lived in California was the age of the building I was living in and the big cracks in the plaster and concrete walls that got bigger every time we had an earthquake. It was also disconcerting having a big warning sign on the ground floor stairwell entrance that said "this is a soft story building that has not been retrofitted to withstand seismic events.". It was like having a waiver telling us the building wasn't safe in earthquakes.

I experienced the great earthquake of Sendai that caused tremendous damage by tsunami 🌊 more than 30 meters high leaving everything destroyed and causing Tokyo to have Seismic intensity of 6 and I couldn’t stand on my feet and hit the corridor walls while trying to reach the living room to watch the quake news 😢😢😢
So many people died and the quake destroyed the nuclear power plants in Fukushima and even to this day some areas are off limits…

i live in a two story apartment building, my unit is on the top floor. i felt the whole apartment SWINGING back and forth for a few minutes. I’ve felt earthquakes before, but never have i felt the building move that much

Yea, I live in SF, got some alert that there was a major quake, so I kinda braced myself for it, but we didn't feel it. Then we had the tsunami warning but thankfully nothing came of that. I've lived through hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, fires, and tsunamis. Earthquakes still freak me out. I am a native Californian. However, I often find myself in Japan a month prior to their major quakes. I always say, "In Japan the safest place to be is in a tall building"

Brings back memories from 1994 in LA/San Francisco. We were gathering by a pool when water started gushing out violently. Didn’t sleep that whole night and the months that followed with constant aftershocks.

As a native Californian, I've been through the Whittier earthquake while living in Long Beach, the Northridge earthquake while living in mid-Wilshire/LA, and the Baja earthquake while living in San Diego!

My grandmother and other relatives where living in Watsonville, during the Loma Pietra/Santa Cruz
earthquake, and then there was my great uncle who
had just celebrated his 7th birthday in 1906 in
San Francisco, during the Great Earthquake and Fire!

Live in WA.. I truly believe that the Tsunami that’s supposed to hit the PNW “eventually”, might hit us in our lifetime. These events are happening more frequently and in areas that aren’t used to getting them..
