Y'all are hilarious, I'm amazed that what I thought was an innocuous little short about a cheap tool that does a job reasonably well has garnered this type of reaction. I had no idea that this many of you only use you EDC knife to open packages (which is not what I'm talking about here, I use whatever is at hand for that), and I didn't mean to take you out of your comfort zone. I also had no idea that there was a lobby for what I'm going to call "big box cutter" who are so incredibly loyal to a comparably priced tool that has a required consumable that you not only have to buy but also dispose of safely. For the record, I like the Fastback, too, it's well designed and handy. I honestly have no investment (don't sell it, no kickback, didn't design it, etc) in this thing and bought it a couple of years ago when I moved and had to take a huge number of big boxes to the dump that wouldn't pack flat by just collapsing them. Thought that showing it might be useful to some folks, and had no idea that its very existence was so threatening to so many people. The questionable use of "literally" is on me, and I hate that, too. Apologies for saying it. I'm quite certain this post is also going to induce its share of attention, but I'm again shaking my head that people have gotten this worked up over this 20 second video.

If most of us stop using our nice edc knives on cardboard boxes, we wouldn't have anything else to use them on ):

I never understood why people spend a ton of money on a EDC knife and are afraid to use it

A pocket knife is for everything. It’s a tool, regardless of price. I carry Microtech and I will use it on anything I choose. People that baby their edc tools are ridiculous. It’s a tool, don’t overthink it.

If my knife can't handle cardboard, she doesn't deserve paper.

If you had a warehouse/factory with people opening boxes all day, this knife would probably save you money, from people not cutting their fingers to avoiding damage to the box contents.

The reason I use my expensive edc knife to break down cardboard is so I can have at least some kind of explanation as to why I buy more lol

Thats literally what your carry knife is for. Thats literally why you carry a knife. For daily tasks.

My edc knife is an otf husky razor knife that I've been using since i was 18. It's for everything except detail work. Carry a little 3-blade jackknife for that.

NEVER push cut with a serrated blade, no matter how fine the serrations are. You always use a rocking cut or a sawing cut.

Any time you cut cardboard with your nice knife, give it a good honing on that same cardboard. Works pretty good to keep it from dulling, which it will do pretty quick cutting cardboard.

This has real "I don't want to scratch up my truck bed" energy.

I have that canary knife, and I still use my EDC fixed blade to break down boxes.

As someone who breaks down loads and opens tons of boxes, yall need to remember that cutters can damage the product inside. My coworkers and I have damaged product in the past for being overzealous with the cutter. I imagine not having to change blades is stellar too

I use a multitool serrated blade. Not gonna carry an entire extra blade just for cardboard. Now to keep on a workstation, sure. But no, this isn’t going to help someone stop using their edc if they don’t want to carry it

“Don’t use the knife that you bought for cutting things to cut things”

The point of these arent to replace box cutters or knives as an EDC; it's a purpose built tool you use when you have to break down a lot of large boxes every day. If you don't see the point in using this, you're not breaking down enough boxes to justify this dedicated cutter.

Box cutters are great for cutting a few boxes. If you cut more than 5 large boxes a day you're gonna be going through a lot of blades and tape will stick to the blade sometimes. With this it will go through literally thousands of boxes and tape will have a very hard time sticking to it.

I needed something exactly like this when I worked for a package service, to cut the bigger boxes that held the packages. the big carboard boxes usually hold 200-500 packages and you kind of need to cut a window/wall into it to pull packages out, then cut all the way around at waist level.

my only want is that it could be a little shorter, maybe a shaped hook to avoid cutting whats inside. but it fixes the issue i would have with regular razor blades pulling themselves out of the Stanley fatmax utility knife.
