Plane door opened on Asiana Airlines | How passenger managed to 'defy physics'

'Occasionally there are these incidents of a passenger losing it and going for the door, usually due to a severe mental health episode.'

Travel expert Sally Gethin explains how it was possible for a passenger on a South Korean flight to open the door while it was in the air.

I'm a nervous flyer, trust me if I was on a plane and someone was trying to open a door I'd do what I could to knock the c□nt out, and worry about things after

Cabin pressure - the aircraft was on approach so it's technically possible as it wouldn't be pressurised t. Also, Airbus don't use plug style doors.

Most other countries around the world never have these problems at holiday times . There won't be any problems though for crossing the English channel .

She never actuallly explains anything and the other two presenters don't actually notice! 😅😅

The reason why plane doors’ opening mechanisms are not released from the cockpit as in trains (to come to the presenter’s example) is OBVIOUSLY because in case of an unexpected and sudden crash (for instance when a plane skids off a runway), crew and passengers may be able to open all doors immediately. What about if the pilots are unconscious or have been crushed in the cockpit by the impact? So, the reason is obvious (and the observation was a bit naive, if I may). Difference in pressure makes it impossible to open an aircraft door while in cruise, whereas during the final approach, the airflow and the fact that doors open “against direction of travel” make it also almost impossible to open it before landing. “Almost”, that is 😬

There is no pressurisation at 700 feet. DUH. That's when the door was opened, the plane was LANDING.

In cruising attitude the outside pressure is LOWER than the pressurized cabin so it is POSSIBLE to open the hatch doors in flight if the cockpit does not have a central lock - which is possible as a safety precaution. I’m not in aerospace industry so experts please correct me if I am wrong.

Dam were do i get tickets for that roller coaster ride

It was low enough in the sky that there was low pressure like how people go skydiving.

I thought commercial airliner doors were made to prevent a passenger from opening them until the plane was on the ground and stopped. Pressurization wasn't keeping the door locked in this instance because the plane was only at about 800 feet and about to land. I'm surprised the man who opened the door didn't fall out but was pleased that the plane landed safely.

The plane wasn't that high up in the sky so the pressure wouldn't have been that great

News flash at high altitude the pressure outside the aircraft is far higher that than the inside of the aircraft. Therefore is you could open the door at altitude you would get blown out as the pressure between the inside and outside equalised.

Right...next time im seated by a door....seat belts on ...how many have a go nutters are going to be inspired by this .

Plane was low.
People open doors and jump out of planes all the time.

They haven't defied physics, but I am surprised there isn't some safety mechanism that stops the door from being opened unless plane is stationary.

Strange how it’s on the children school holidays in France and uk. Parents should be able to take their children on holiday when they want to so the whole of the uk won’t be going on holiday the same time and the system can’t cope with it. Nothing works in the uk anymore.

I did think the emergency door lever works because it levers the door out, no matter the weight and up to sum air pressure?

Stop drinking prior to flying, that way everyone is protected

A "glitch" happens just as loads of folk want to travel... Done on purpose?
