Passenger opens plane door mid-flight

A passenger has opened the emergency door of an Asiana Airlines jet mid-flight in South Korea, forcing it to land.

Some passengers on board the Asiana Airlines flight tried to stop the person from opening the door, but it was eventually opened partially according to the transport ministry.

The aircraft, with 194 people on board, was heading to the southeastern city of Daegu from the southern island of Jeju.

Aircraft doors on most large planes cannot be opened at altitude due to the pressure inside the aircraft being greater than the pressure outside. ( They come in before going out)
As the aircraft descends however, the pressures will equalize, either automatically or from a control in the cockpit.
This door was probable opened either coming into land or shortly after take off. Coming into land is the most likely.

I always thought if the door opened on a plane everyone would fly out due to the air pressure obviously I was wrong.

Someone been reading the safety card carefully and try to practice it.
However, this is a serious offence and that passenger should be banned from flying again.

It is possible to open cabin door below 10000ft. Cabin crew are required to sit for landing at this altitude. service oriented airlines like Asian airlines or middle eastern they put service first so the cabin crew sits for landing late as they have to deliver last cup of tea or something (speaking from my own experience as cabin crew).
