Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi vs Darth Maul, or better known as the "Duel of the Fates" lightsaber battle, cut down into a single cohesive scene here and shown in 4K HDR.

A 4K HDR sample from my Extended Star Wars Episode I Cut, simply titled "The Phantom Menace - Extended Edition". As of today, both cuts have now been updated to a new 2.0 version, featuring several minor tweaks in audio, updates to the HDR color timing (especially for Episode I), tweaks to transitions, and brand new A.I. upscales of many of the deleted scenes. A total of 7 deleted scenes have been restored in the film.

Note: The trimmed down version of the duel of the fates battle is only for the youtube upload. The version scene in the film cut itself won't be intercut in this same way.

Both of my Extended Episode I and II cuts are available in both 4K HDR and 1080p SDR, along with my other edits like the 4.5 hour Revenge of the Sith - The Siege of Mandaore Supercut the, Star Wars Episode IV - The Rogue Cut, and many more!

Use the following Google Doc to see the cuts for yourself, then follow the instructions there.

As a kid, this scene was worth the price of a theater ticket..

Finally. A video where they show Maul’s intro before the fight. I think it’s important for the Sith Lord to have a little dramatic opening before the fight really begins. Thank you. I appreciate it very much.

What makes this scene so special is because no one had seen a double lightsaber till now. I remember when the second blade came out and the whole theater went bunkers!

Fun fact, Ray Park, the actor for Darth Maul is an actual martial artist and gymnast. You can tell by how he’s more agile than McGregor and Neeson and his movements with the lightsaber come off as very smooth and natural. He’s also shorter than both Neeson and McGregor, with his height being 5’9. A lot of the best gymnasts and acrobats tend to be shorter, and there’s a reason why.

Being shorter actually helps in those fields because it’s easier to move and spin your body with a compact build. Shorter people also tend to have better balance because their center of gravity (which is usually around the abdomen), is lower to the ground, and the lower the center of gravity is to the base of support, the better the balance will be.

I remember seeing this scene as a kid and just being awestruck

Qui Gon was so underrated. He was an aggressive, strong attacker in this duel. Only his age worked against him.

The music for these scenes is so important, John Williams is a genius. He created a master piece for these moments, two religions, two enemies fighting again after a 1000 years… magnificent

Remember when being stabbed by a lightsaber actually killed people? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

This is the most quietest fight ever. Besides Obi-Wan screaming there were no words said between all of these guys throughout the entire fight.

2:40 I love how Maul paces back and forth and stares, like a predatory animal waiting to capture its prey.

People dunk on this movie but this scene was just fantastic. Sure it introduced bunch of space kung-fu and almost made it impossible for Star Wars to not focus on lighsticks, but the music! The choreography! There is almost no dialogue. Everything is conveyed through movements, facial expressions.

Say what you want about the prequel trilogy, this is one of the greatest moments in cinematic history.

I love Maul’s feigned look of bewilderment at 2:30, as if he hasn’t already scoped out this location. He knows exactly the battlefield he’s picked, and he’s just trying to throw Qui-Gon off.

Disney could never make a scene like this.
