for those wondering, let me explain at least from what i know how the trailing car can cause aerodynamic disadvantages on the leading car as I dont see anyone mentioning it in the comments.

side drafting 101
when a car is on the side of another car. The ideal position is for the car to be about 1/8 the car length in seperation and about half to 3/4 a car length behind the leading car.. this causes the leading cars air to push to the guy next to it, but, when it hits the trailing car the air then seperates and pushes back on to the rear of the leading car. This positioning is very important. if the car is too far back, then it gains nothing. if its too far forward its being pushed back into the stream naturally of the leading car. if its too close the air cant get on top of the rear of the leading car and if its too far away the air doesnt make it far enough.

^2 cars, the rear car is side drafting in ideal position.. the pushed air from the lead, hits the trailer, then gets pushed back on the rear of the lead in a way that gives the trailer an aerodynamic advantage. the phrase "dirty air" makes sense.. youre sending the leading cars airflow back on itself.. brilliant
sidenote-if there is a 3rd car behind both, it can be to their advantage to follow the 2nd car directly as this drastically increases the pressure behind the lead.. since the 3rd will be 1 - 1.5 car lengths back, it puts it at a large disadvantage for any cars behind it to slingshot around.

youre welcome.. studies online better explain this.

Respect, at least you went to a nascar race. Unlike other people who think ovals are boring.

Lead changes that race: 70+. Lead changes the entirety of last F1 season: 70.

Oval races are chess at 200 mph, it's a different kind of racing from anything else, I'll admit it's not my favourite kind of racing, I prefer open wheel racing, but yeah, people who just talk trash about oval racing don't understand it.

Edit: Wow this comment blew up, uh, thank you!

Wish other non-Americans or even Americans who criticize Nascar (specifically F1 fans, international and in America) understood this.

Underglow needs to make a comeback. I'm rocking it on my 2020 Civic hatch and love when I see someone else on the road with it. It makes me super excited.

I may not be the biggest NASCAR fan, but I can’t express to you how ecstatic I was when I discovered than a NASCAR car was brought specially for the 100th anniversary of the 24h of Le Mans, I was overjoyed to see this ZL1 Camaro on this track, just for the sake of it

Racing, in any kind of form always makes my eyes sparkle, we all have our preferences but never forget that we love racing no matter what

Having the ability to mess up the aero of the guy in front of you is the pinnacle of racing physics

Not needing to brake is only true for a few tracks. Superspeedways and certain intermediates. With the new car you have to shift on short tracks often too. With the most recent race at Gateway, drivers were shifting 8 times per lap.

It’s pretty cool seeing which line is better and when it happens you see some crazy action with cars trying to switch or when a car is left stranded and you see the pack open up like a sea and suck it up, happened to Allmedinger recently

I watched your full video the other day. As a long tim NASCAR fan I can confidently say: you nailed it. Easily one of the best introductions to NASCAR I've ever seen. Your appreciation of the sport and it's people was refreshing.

Almost every oval has gear changing with the Next Gen NASCAR Cup Car.

Also from a fan's perspective, ovals are great because for most tracks you can follow the race the entire time all around the track. On road courses you see cars pass you once every 2 minutes and nothing in between.

Short Track Ovals are even crazier. The track is so short and there are so many cars that within 20 laps you are lapping the field and from that point on it's constant traffic.
