I'm from iran, iran has 2nd largest gas reserve after Russia but recently iran agreed to buy and import Russian gas
It will cause unimployment of gas workers in iran and just yesterday iran gave Russia 40 gas turbines
So make up your mind about it
Also iran doesn't/can't export it's gas to Europe or other countries because of US sanctions

Companies have "left" Russia but most stores remain open and continue to sell products.

So the sanctions provide an opportunity to replace imports with domestically developed substitutes. Now, all they need is a lot of talented engineers to develop those substitutes, oh wait...

What VisualEconomik EN stated about sanctions for raw materials for medicine simply doesn't apply. Virtually of these materials come from either China or India and neither has imposed trade sanctions on Russia.

McDonalds was sold or re-brand and currently working with another name. So its Mcdonalds(same quality, same menu, everything same, same workers, same buildings), but its not Mcdonalds in terms of international law

One problem with the charts (Russian gas exports vs Europe gas imports) is that EU is NOT a behemoth. There are countries that import less than 5% of their gas from Russia (the UK, which doesn't mean it has avoided the energy crisis), there are some in the middle, and there are some in South Central Europe that import > 90%!

It is a little more complicated than that, in total Europe incl UK has announed 1 Trillion euros to subsidise energy bills, offcourse the russian gas and oil can be replaced but at what cost? Germany is already seeing it's competitive advantage plummet, UK.. well, what a mess, France can't supply whole europe with her cheaper nuclear power. The only winner out of all this seems to be the all weather friend of Europe.. USA

Hum … visual economics just forgot that Russia Central Bank raised primary interest rates to 18% in March 2022 which made keeping ruble very lucrative … rate has then been gradually reduced to avoid ruble going too high.

Прочитал кучу комментариев, в которых люди предполагают крушение российской экономики прямо сейчас, но... Мало, кто думает, о том, что Россия может быть абсолютно автономной в отличие от большинства стран запада. У нас есть почти всё, кроме разве что бананов, кофе, ну и ещё какой-нибудь ерунды. А технологии и оборудовании... Это всё можно разработать и изобрести. В 1941 году у нас поля пахали на лошадях, а в 1949 мы испытали атомную бомбу. Так что не надо недооценивать Россию.

Sanction is not a cost-free exercise. It hurts both the target and the originator. It also does not produce effect immediately. The question is who can withstand the hurt longer. Russia bets on the US and Europe could not outlast itself.

No, Russia isn’t immune to sanctions. But West is not immune either. Both economies are suffering like mad. That is what happens in a war…

One other thing omitted are private intermediaries that can buy from Russia and then sell them to major companies. This grey zone is also what it causing Russia economy to be stable, at least on paper and it's unquantifiable.
