Psychosis is also a symptom in elderly people. My grandmother had psychosis and was taken to a psychiatrist. He did his little exam then talked to my parents and said he thought it was pneumonia and called for an ambulance and had them start iv antibiotics. It was pneumonia and she lived to tell about it.

Great explanation, Thank you, 3 times I've been unfortunate to have punomia, 1st time, my only tell tale signs were (blue lips )( 2nd time, my stats were fine, but my actions were completely insane, I was to get a bronchoscpy that day and not 1 health professional, even thought to ask if my actions were normal, and I had Haemophilus influenza.
As you can imagine, I was well out of sorts, thankfully the bronchoscpy couldn't go ahead, as my inner being kicked in, and the tube, inserted down my throat would not go past my voice box, I was also given something to knock me out and it never worked I was wide awake and was able to say, Dr you need to stop now or my body is going to start fighting, thankfully they stopped, I was sent home again and sent another appointment to go have a CT scan with contrast, I had also had 2 or 3 ct scans by now but it took the contrast to highlight the white mass, and collapsed lung, everytime I went near a Dr I would seem fine, once away, I would start wheezing, that bad, even members of the public were asking if I was ok, I had to say, yes (very breathless)& get on, I also have COPD and emphysema and asthma, I know how ill I was, even with ct scans, xray, s, I was healthy, and again .

Another great explanation video MedCram. As a lung specialist, I often see CT scans where pneumonia can look like lung cancer. I have videos to demonstrate this to show the importance of Bronchoscopy and biopsy for select cases

Rheumatoid arthritis can also be the reason. Especially, when not receiving the prednisone that the patient had been taking.

very useful information. in terms of % would you say that 50% of cases that come in are S. pneumoniae based? Would you know of a site which ranks cases based upon the type of bacteria? Acute & Strep make sense as it is a very aggressive bacteria.
