Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor doesn't require any blood to monitor blood sugar levels. CNBC’s Erin Black, who has Type 1 Diabetes, puts it to the test to see if it’s as accurate as previous glucose monitors that require a finger prick and blood.

This Diabetes Monitor Can Read Your Blood Sugar Without Any Blood | CNBC

I have Type 1 diabetes, which means my body doesn't produce any insulin. So I have to inject insulin to regulate my blood sugar and check my levels by using a glucometer. This means I have to stick my finger with a needle anywhere from 5 to 10 times a day.

Dexcom provided me with a review unit of its new G6 continuous glucose monitor that's approved by the FDA to require no blood at all.

CGMs allow diabetics to see their blood sugar throughout the day and night with a sensor that is inserted under the skin. Previously, CGMs needed a blood glucose reading in order to calibrate the device.

The new Dexcom G6 comes factory-calibrated and requires no finger stick. I've been wearing the device for nine days and I am really impressed with it.

The Dexcom G6 is amazing the only thing that I don’t like about it is after your blood sugar goes so low it’ll just tell you low and then you still have to manually check it and if your blood sugar is higher than 400 it won’t give you a reading and I’ll just say high

Don't know why I can not purchase this online from Australia. I'm not asking for an insurance handout. I would think it should be up to me. Anyway bring out the G7

I still finger stick once or twice a day with the G6, because one time last April or May, I went without doing so for three days. I don't exactly remember what the G6 told me my blood sugar was trending at, but I think it was somewhere between 150 and 180. So, I took a midterm exam for my topology class (this was in my final year of undergrad as a math major) and I couldn't remember a damn thing I studied. Mind you, I'm the kind of person who gets straight A's when healthy. I never asked what my score was, but I was sure I flunked and I wound up dropping the class a few days after. Turns out, the G6 was lying and my blood sugar was over 350 with extra large ketones. I probably should've been at the hospital, not taking a closed-notes exam for a first-year-Master's-level course. Don't believe everything a company tells you about the degree of capability of their product.

G6 combined with the T-Slim is amazing. Especially since control IQ came out.

Love this. I wish my insurance would cover it (they said they only cover the freestyle libre with the only exception being that if you got the insurance after being prescribed dexcom then they will cover it but if your diagnosed while on a plan like i was they won’t cover it due to costs)

Desperate to get a hold of the dexcom. The G6 isn't going to be covered by my national health care any time soon, and the G5 was cut recently because someone 'forgot to put it on the list'. Meaning hundreds of diabetics had to switch to different cgms. Now the only readily available dexcom is the G4 which was FDA approved in 2015, but compared to the G6 is way out of date.

I feel like thyroid is much more serious than one thing and needs much attention as diabetes. 24 hours thyroid hormones monitor is needed like diabetes. People with thyroid can have problem between balancing hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

I don't have diabetes but am interested in getting a continuous glucose monitor to check my blood sugar level for health reasons. I'd love to see how what I eat affects my sugar level. Plus, I'd love to see how exercise affects my sugar level. How much is this? Are the sensors reusable? Can we just reuse them as Erin did (she made a cut-out black-tape adhesive).

I wish there is a CGM that can export the charts/data into some non-proprietary format, like a spreadsheet.

I wonder what is difference between other devices because all use needle that is inserted under the skin to place the sensor?

It can be improved. It's not good enough. Google and Apple can really help in this matter.
