They say if lightning strikes the ground and your skin is touching the ground where it's close enough you can feel the electricity go through you. Hence why the woman didn't hear what the man said at first.

If lightning strikes someone and u are touching the ground with your hands, or if you aren't wearing any shoes on then u might feel a bit of a shock.
