I'm a born and raised American and I agree with you about Hershey's. I don't ever eat it. Ghirardelli is American chocolate, from San Francisco and it's lovely.

Hershey's has a kind of enzyme or something that aged cheese has. It adds a savory note that people don't like if they didn't grow up on it.

A lot of us don’t like plain Hershey’s chocolate. It’s usually the ones with almonds or some kind of nut in them that are more popular imo.

Also, in the UK, milk chocolate must contain 24% chocolate. In the US, only 10%. That's why yours tastes better.

When I was a kid, Hershey, snickers and Twix tasted like the gourmet Ghirardelli chocolate.
I remember the year it all changed.
It was the same year Walmart came to California and the Coke Cola company introduced new coke vs classic coke. Which was an experiment on synthetic sugar versus real.

I’m not a fan of Hershey’s either. It was the most popular chocolate when I was growing up. I don’t eat it anymore. There are much better chocolates available now!!

Hershey is the worst I’m so glad I finally find people who absolutely hate it I love in Oregon USA and I’ve made my own chocolate and I mostly only eat dark chocolate because the milk chocolate in the US is absolutely horrible

It is true that the milk in Hershey's chocolate has soured slightly, but we're all used to it. LOL I grew up one town over from Hershey's and while I can say that the chocolate taste may not be everyone's favorite, the smell when you drive thru the town is DIVINE! :D

I like Hershey’s, but I’ll admit, there’s better tasting chocolate brands here in the U.S. And from other countries.

Those American kids on last time rated Hershey’s higher than Cadbury’s……I think they were high!

Hersheys adds buteric acid (same compound of flavor in soured milk or vomit) as do many other American chocolate companies. Originally, back in the day, Hershey had to source milk from dairy farmers quite the distance from the factory and the milk arrived it was not at peak freshness. This established the flavor profile and even now with refrigerated shipping they add the buteric acid to maintain their original flavor profile. So many European chocolate lovers will say Hersheys has a vomit aftertaste and they are absolutely correct!

Because Hershey's use rennit in it and rennit is used to make cheese and yoghurt 😊
