However, AI's growing capabilities are making these tests increasingly ineffective. "You know, this is 'Are you a human? Identify all the traffic lights in this picture.' You're like, OK, and AI is going to have no problem doing that."

Musk pointed out that AI can now solve these tests more accurately and quickly than humans. "In fact, it'll do it better than a human and faster than a human," he noted. This raises a critical question: "How do you know the point at which it's better at passing human tests than humans? Then, what tests actually make sense?"

This dilemma is particularly relevant for platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where distinguishing between genuine users and bots is crucial. "That is a real problem, and I don't actually have a good solution to it," Musk admitted. "That's one of the things we're trying to figure out on the X platform is how to deal with that, because we really are at the point where, even with open source, readily available AI, you don't need to be leading the field. You can actually be better than humans at passing these tests."

One potential solution Musk suggested involves introducing a nominal fee to create an account. "Perhaps we should charge a dollar or a pound a year. It's a very tiny amount of money, but it still makes it prohibitively expensive to make a million bots," he explained. This small cost could significantly deter the creation of large numbers of fake accounts, thereby helping to maintain the integrity of online platforms.
