The UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26) took place from October 31 - November 13 in Glasgow, United Kingdom and ended with the adoption of the Glasgow Climate Pact.

Here's a summary of some of the conference's highlights in under 10 minutes.

The UNFCCC secretariat (UN Climate Change) is the United Nations entity tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change. UNFCCC stands for United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Convention has near universal membership (197 Parties) and is the parent treaty of the 2015 Paris Agreement. The main aim of the Paris Agreement is to keep the global average temperature rise this century as close as possible to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The UNFCCC is also the parent treaty of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The ultimate objective of all three agreements under the UNFCCC is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system, in a time frame which allows ecosystems to adapt naturally and enables sustainable development.

Lol. 1, 5C alive? Not, by any realistic way. We are going over 1, 5C and most likely over 2, 0C (likely near 2050's). Getting back down to 1, 5C after that is almost impossible, because land and oceans will keep the greenhouse gas levels up at the point where they are pushed. We are currently keep emitting loads of carbon to the atmosphere. We are still lucky that our oceans are not heating at the same rate as our land areas. Our land based temperature has raised already to 1, 6C, while oceans has only warmed up to 0, 88C. And Arctic area temperatures has risen 4-5 times as much as global average.

There are few things that our current climate models miss. First: Amazon rainforest has turned to carbon emitter (measurements, not models). Second Arctic as a whole has turned to carbon emitter. Third we are not even measuring nor reporting our military emissions, so they will keep up polluting even after current model terms are achieved. In many areas there are known unknows and also unknown unknowns that have mostly negative impacts for our climate. Also IPCC reporting is 3-7 years late, because they rely on peer reviewed science only. Ie. their latest temperature graph and models start from 2015, not from 2020 that could have been added to the report. So lower pathways misses 6 years of high emissions (that makes 1, 5C targets even more harder to reach).

1, 5C is a big lie, but yet still an worthy goal. A goal that cannot be reached anymore. Like UN said 2, 7C is most likely and that's also what WMO's leader Petteri Taalas said after COP: most likely we are heading toward 2, 5-3, 0C world. (And these doesn't fully include those missing parts.)
