I'm with you on this one .... Use it just as you describe. It's helped me far more than failed. Plus ... I still do system image backups, too. I've used SYSTEM RESTORE to pull me out of some really ugly updates and installs. Like you said: if you've had the same distressing experience .... then you know the value of enabling and using SR on a regular basis. Thanks!

Thank you for this video! As a tech, I run into a lot of systems that stop booting after a Windows Update. I am surprised to hear that the option is disabled automatically because there are never any restore points created on these systems. This is a practice that I will begin to implement with more systems that I work on.

I've used Roll Back Rx for some time now and it works very well.

I have used System Restore since the early days. It has saved my bacon many times and never failed.

Just found your channel. I've learned so much. Thanks. One thing. I deleted my one drive, but the computer is still defaulting to saving my pictures to a non-existent drive--do you have a video that tells me how to change Hope so. I appreciate your info and wish I had a better choice of operating systems. I hate Windows and Microsoft but not savvy enough to figure out anything else. I love your rants so carry on. They are minor to the rant storms I get up to.

Hey just a quick question, if i were to create a system restore point while my pc already has my games, and other files. Would I then have to give all the space thats being used on my manually created restore point? Great video by the way, I only just recently found your channel and I love it. :)

Thanks! I see so many MS defaults that are EXACTLY what I don't want. It's as if they do this on purpose.

Have it running but only in a few % of the disk size. My favorite backup for Windows is Aomei Backupper Free. I have pationed the disk and private data is not on the c drive. A smaller systemdrive (80GB) and a larger data drive. That does the images small and fast creating a restore. Data drive is backed up in another way.

Yo Scott, Thanks again for the 'Heads Up' on this one. Though I already had one Restore point made I created another due to the amount of Updates I've gone through since then, should I Delete the other, and if so How? Hope your weekend has been better than mine so far. ~Mark~

It makes no sense why Microsoft doesn't enable System Restore by default. It can save you from having to reinstall Windows

I’ve used it several times in the past and had no problems. Always accomplished what I was running it for. One question I have though is if it automatically deletes older restore points. I created one a couple of months ago that I wanted to use recently, and it’s gone. If it does delete old ones, is there any way to change that? Thanks for the great content.

I enable System Restore, but I also use Acronis True Image to make a system image of my boot drive every so often, usually just after I've done a big Windows Update or installed some new software. Both programs have saved my bacon more than once.

I’m torn as well… that’s why all my data is on my NAS, and I leave the boot drive with windows on it only. Nothing but the OS.

hi, I've partitioned my ssd into two and only kept SysRestore 'ON' in C: and off on D:

I'll keep my data on D: but will restore still work with C: being partitioned?

I'm having a hard time thinking of how to ask what I mean but that's the best I can do for now haha.

On the "Create a Restore Point" screen, each of my drives is listed and each can be turned on or off for restore points. What is this about? Do I need all of them on or just the one where Windows is installed?

I dunno, I keep a schedule for personal backup. I haven't had to use system restore since W7.

I'm pretty sure that windows used to have Restore point on by default for system drive. Because not so many years ago, i was always disabling as many things as possible to get the most performance out of my bad hardware. When i built a new computer i just left it on because i saw many cases when it was helpful.
