I wish it was cheaper. I want to learn to use it for my animation portfolio but the premium subscription and all of their one time purchases are just so expensive!

Harmony isn't really that well suited for games as they like to claim. Double Stallion (the studio behind Speed Brawl ) had to develop their own internal plugin for Unity because the one that ships with Harmony Premium is lacking. Also, when animating for games you have to avoid pretty much all their deformers (envelope, curve, bones) and stick to "game bones" alone. At which point you are much better off using a cheaper tool like Moho or an industry proven solution such as Spine.
Speaking of Spine, if I'm not mistaken that was the middleware used for all skeletal animation on Cult of the Lamb. Harmony might have been used for the animated shorts to promote the game, but all the in game animations were done in Spine.

Harmony is the biggest name in the industry, an underrated 2D animation software would be Moho, but Harmony is used by the vast majority of 2D animation studios, and you can't pronounce Montreal, really !
