Is the AXE FX Worth It

Jonathan, your playing is great! great vibrato, phrasing, touch, control and dynamics. It really doesn't matter what you play through imho, Jonathan would sound great through Amplitube, a K***er, a 10w Gorilla combo, an amp from Argos, a cigrette amp. where it _does_ make a difference is when your playing is at level where you know the amp is limiting you.

I’m still torn between my Helix (Flagship floor) or, my Fractals, AX8, AXE FXIII, and awaiting FM9.
I do admire the Fractal stuff, as their amps and effects are superb, but Helix has such a great GUI.
I luv ‘em all equally, and can’t pick a fave. I just know that Quad Cortex and Kemper, and Headrush, aren’t for me. Too busy and just not my tonal flavors I guess… I owned those too, but they were sold after a few weeks of using them.

They’re all great for what they do and you’d be hard pressed to pick a favorite.

I absolutely love the Axe FX but I grew tired of the rack/ floor type units long time back. I will be buying an FM9 as soon as they are readily available.

I find these modelers both tantalizing and terrifying. And, I know I don't have to choose between a modeler and a tube amp. I know I can have both. Still, I find myself wondering if I have the time and inclination to crawl down the rabbit hole. Oh well, I guess I'm a fence-sitter on this one. Thank you, John, for making these tools more accessible. The playing you share with us is great, and you bring the fresh tones that generate this kind of reflection. Wow! What is happening at precisely 1:47? You changed tone a few seconds before that and as you move up the fretboard the distortion kind of turns into an octave/feedback sound.

This video makes me glad I'm not married anymore and likely never will again. I don't have to explain anything to the girlfriend and she doesn't need to know anything about my spending. I think the AXE-FX is worth it, but I still just have my FM3. I've worked around it's short comings, but that's really just not being able to use the highest res settings for the IR's and the reverbs at the same time.

I'm not playing out much now and am basically focused on the recording side and learning to master mixing, producing and mastering. And all my music gear spending has been into the studio. (I have a separate artist account just for music under my artist name). I like how the Fractal processing sounds, feels and is designed to program. I will buy an AXE-FX, but it's not a priority right now.

What’s not great is that they launched the product before holding enough stock to supply two waves of demand and waiting months for one often means people would rather have something which has been around for 5 years, than wait for one. The next stock delivery to large retailers is most likely already sold to preorders.
Dont get me wrong, the product is great and I get the inherent Covid issues affecting the entire planet but the timing of the release was bad IMO.

On the amp models, while you do get a lot for your money, for me 290 models would be overkill. In the last few years you've shown us that it is possible to get a *huge* variety of tones from the HX Stomp alone. There's no way I would ever explore all the possibilities of the AXE FX.

I would love an axe fx 3 or the new floor one. But they seem almost like a hidden gem in the UK. I dont know a single store you can go and get hands on with one like you can all the others.
