Fractal AX8 or FM3? First time recording the AX8

To be honest, I think the biggest improvements Fractal have made are in the User Interface department - for me personally I really find it a lot easier to build a preset on the Axe 3 or on the FM3. Of course, using the Edit software kind of evens that playing field a bit!

This preset is "JC Comet and AC Lead"

Ooh! B*llocks alert: dual cabs possible on the AX8 - in the cab block, go to pg2 and change mode to stereo, then pg1 you can load 2 IRs!

I've had an AX8 since it came out and still love it. Nice tip on switching the X/Y state; that always bugged me when trying to edit patches at the gig. Like you say, editing presets requires the Fracpad app on iPad or AX8 edit via computer.

Hey guys! Keeping in mind that the AX8 has no software update potential and no room for growth as a modeller, and the fact that a brand new FM3 retails at 999 USD, what do you think is a good price for a used AX8?

The ax8 is a beautiful machine, I have had one for the past few years and I’m very happy. If I remember correctly dual cabs are possible.
(Now I’m waiting to try a Kemper).

I had the AX8 and sold it when the FM3 was announced and got on the waitlist. I really wanted not to be stuck without updates and support. I sold the AX8 for more than I paid for it. FM3 was the right move. It’s smaller, lighter and has a better I/O. I’m comfortable with the 3 buttons even for gigs. Sounds great IMO. FM3 uses same firmware as the AXIII. Cygnus should be even better.

Once you know how to use the fm 3 or any fractal unit then it’s easy to do whatever you want to one the front panel interface or the computer that is obviously easier. But sound wise the fm 3 is way better than. Way way way better it has the true sound of amps and feel of playing.
