It's a sad day for PC gaming when 60 tier Nvidia and 600 tier AMD GPUs are categorized as mid-range. That used to be the entry level class for first time DIY builders. It gets even worse when you realize the 4060 is more of a 4050 and we're likely headed for a near $400 MSRP. Console gaming has never looked sweeter.

If I were doing a build today, I'd go all-Intel with an i5-13400 CPU and an ARC 770 16GB GPU on a mid range mobo, opting for DDR5, even if that stretches the budget a tad.

I'm surprised the Arc series cards don't get recommended despite their steady improvements and increased stability don't get listed as decent Budget cards for their performance to price.

I can say that I'm a person who spend productively late winter and spring months. Did all the changes I wanted and did jobs which I always wanted to do. I'm proud of myself for that. Even if this is my standard for every year.

Based on recent 40 series launches, I'm expecting the RTX 4060Ti to be $450 and will perform almost identically to a 3070.

The fact they now categorize people into economic classes based on their gpu they have truly amazes me.

Although it may be a small number of AM5 skus affected when compared to the number sold, I still feel for those affected by it. I opted to go AM4 with a 5800x recently cuz it was a proven platform and the price of entry was significantly less for CPU, Mobo and I could reuse existing DDR4 ram. Hopefully AMD and AM5 board manufacturers take care of their customers.

Good job, Paul! A bit behind the State of the Art but the 5600G stop gap you suggested during the mining caused GPU desert worked like a charm. And dropping in my 2019 Paul's Hardware suggested rig's RTX 2060 worked without a hitch. Meanwhile I stepped out on my own and spent a bit to buy a custom, somewhat future proof, X670E Hero/ 32G DDR 5 5600 rig with an affordable RTX 3060 and Zen 5 7600. Affordable GPUs that do what I need them to do. And I can always drop in a 40 series once all the bugs are worked out, a 50 series is announced and the 40 series is affordable. I'm so impressed by the 30 series I can't imagine needing a 40 series. And as my gaming future is limited at the age of 62, I may not need a further upgrade.

I fully expect the same hysterical coverage on these AM5 chips burning as we got for the 4090 connector issue.
