I was just in China for two weeks, nearly every taxi was an EV, we caught 2-3 most days. About two were Hybrids, that’s one per week. Even EV Vans / MPV’s everywhere, electric mopeds ( can’t hear them creeping behind you on the footpath anymore). It was such a dramatic change from pre-covid days, can longer look at the sun during the day like we used to due to blue skies and no smog😂

I have no sympathy for bmw who are gouging Australian customers with prices 50 percent higher than before the pandemic

I couldn't care if they have a 1500km range hydrogen car. I'm not goin back to the service station again

AMAZING.. Hydrogen. A Tesla owner could throw solar panels up in their backyard and charge their vehicle. They can't just throw something up so simple and fill their hydrogen vehicle. Living in DENIAL is going to destroy those companies !!

I heard they are now working on an alternative fuel car based on male cow waste, though it may be Bullshit.

And what happens if China hits European cars with high tariffs as a response to the EU Chinese tariffs? And how on earth did Toyota con BMW into joining the hydrogen money pit?

Along with every other Major Euro and American OEM I would think.

The era when European car manufacturers, particularly the German brands, dominated the market is coming to an end. They were slow to adopt electric vehicle (EV) technology, while China recognised the shift early on and now leads the EV market. It’s only now that European and American automakers are realising their mistake in underestimating China's capabilities. We’re seeing a similar trend in the technology sector.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz attempted to establish themselves as manufacturing giants in China, aiming to take advantage of its vast market. However, they’ve largely fallen short. On top of that, when you buy a BMW or Mercedes-Benz in Western markets, including Australia, you’re charged extra for features that are standard in Chinese EVs. Tesla has even started to follow this misguided approach set by the European manufacturers.

Among the German carmakers, Mercedes-Benz stands out for all the wrong reasons. While their designs may be attractive, the quality beneath the surface is lacking, and their customer service is often poor. In my view, European manufacturers are now too far behind to catch up with the rapid advancements made by Chinese EV companies. Only time will tell.

Just back from France. I noticed an interesting marketing trick: They were advertising their cars as "Fully Hybrid". They think their customers are stupid.

What did they expect when they made people pay a monthly subscription for heated seats, suspensions, heated steering wheel, cruise control, etc.

Chinese people are flocking towards BYD and the EV evolution, my wife went to the Suzhou Auto Show a few weeks ago and saw Ford, Mercedes, Lotus, Audi ... having NO EV opening while there was intense interest around the EV brands - where a BYD offered free power installation and free annual battery replacement. Notwithstanding that EV's started from £8000 with BYD at £15, 000 and Mercedes as £35, 000

I see a lot of BMW EVs in HK, particularly in my condo building. BMW and Mercedes have a firm grip on luxury EVs in HK as the Mainland China EV companies have not yet entered the market. It's only a matter of time as Chinese EVs like BYD, Xpeng, AION, MG, Maxus, Zeekr, Ora have started rolling in their MPV, SUV and sedans. Toyota especially is getting killed in the MPV market as their petrol heavy VellFire and Alphards are priced higher than the Mainland MPVs

China’s EV market is moving at an insane pace, almost like buying a smartphone with frequent new releases. But when it comes to RV & spare parts, concerns remain.

The Europeans actually think it is a good idea to keep kicking its biggest customer in the Shin, on behalf of the Americans. Oh, come to think of it, Morrison of Australia thought so too.
