In 2010, MLB umpire Jim Joyce wrongly called Cleveland hitter Jason Donald safe at first, spoiling Armando Galarraga’s bid at a perfect game and opening himself up to world-wide infamy. But the next game showed the power of forgiveness and the human spirit.

We all have that one memory, when we messed up big time, and every time we think of it, we cringe HARD!
Forgiveness is THE most Beautiful thing.

I literally remember watching this live. Gives me chills the way Armando was able to handle himself in that crushing moment.

These moments are what brings the human elements in to the game. You will not get these emotions with a computer or AI calling the game, I have never seen a computer shed tears

Perfect Games are RARE, but … because of this Human Mistake, the Game in question & the actors in it have become IMMORTAL … Silver Linings. The Most MEMORABLE Perfect Game that wasn’t Perfect because it’s just a Game. Hope one Day they give it to the Pitcher & the Umpire be the one to present him the Honor

One of the only times I've ever felt bad for an ump/ref

I love Armandos pat on Joyce’s shoulder and Jim slaps his shoulder back. Thats a “I forgive you”, and a “I AM SO SORRY “ in actions without words

It just sucks because very few people ever get to experience perfection in their lives. I’m honestly more upset with the mlb not revising the call than anyone’s mistake by an older gentlemen who took full accountability though.

As more of a hockey fan than a baseball fan, that moment reminded me of an incident that happened to the Redwings in the playoffs the last year before they got to the finals (for the first time, in that great run they had)
Yzerman had made a ridiculous move to stay onside, the line judge didn't call it, he just juked everyone down and scored the game tying goal and THEN they called it offsides, negating the goal.
You probably have to be a Wings fan to remember that because it's kinda been forgotten by sports history but it was crushing to us.

I think enough time has passed and rules have changed that a petition should be changed to make this a perfect game.
A perfect game +1.

The reaction of the annoucers immediately following the play showed the respect that this man had earned over his career.

The next day (clip above) is a little glimpse into how that reputation was built.

Class acts, both of these men.

The thing about it this is it is hard to list all the other pitchers with perfect games (especially with how much the list has grown in the last decade) but everyone remembers the imperfect game. In a way it really helped him.
