Use a stick to get off the cliff #shorts

This is the brinco canario or shepherd's leap. It is a traditional activity of the Canary Islands that involves the use of a long wooden stick with a pointed end, known as a "garote" or "lanza", which the shepherds use to navigate steep and rugged terrain. The use of this practical technique allows the shepherds to jump over large gaps, descend steep slopes and move quickly along difficult paths.

Canary islander here. Thank you so much for bringing this to the world's attention. If anyone has further questions or interests, you can ask and I will try to explain. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the very few young people that still fabricates these and teaches how to use them. It's a great heritage, and super practical given our volcanic geography.

Some years ago, I practiced this activity. It's amazing. You can use the garrote also for climbing

For those keep saying 'splinters', if this tool has been provenly used before effectively and safely by rural and remote people, im pretty sure they have the technique to smoothen the surface to remove any splinter incidents while in use. so don't be negative on something that looks primal.

I'm from Canary Islands. If anyone is wondering, it's true, it's tradition as a game or even sport. And the name of the stick can change from island to island, but all names basically mean something like pole if you translate them to English. And 'garrote' has two 'r', just to correct the video XD

En Costa Rica los campesinos acostumbramos hacer eso en ocasiones, mi padre nos lo mostró cuando vivíamos en el campo.

Amazing! This is also one of the things I still love best about the internet: education on other cultures.
