I got a quote for implant..the entire procedure $7000 a tooth. Amazing how much these dentists make. Now i know why so many people go around with missing teeth.

I’ve learned more about oral hygiene, teeth & gum on this page in about 15 min then I’ve ever did in my 27 years of life.. sad that my dentist won’t take the time to be educational like Whitney over here 💯💪🏾

I am currently going without a molar (tooth #14). It’s not cosmetic but I sure do miss it. We use to enjoy so many meals together, strolls on the beach, but then there was a crack in our relationship. Literally. Infection seeped in and before you know it, it was time for us to end our relationship. It was a good 40 years little buddy. It’s just me and my gums toughing it out now in your spot.

Bridge is the worst option.... Whoever came up with it must be fired... You destroy 2 additional tooth to fix one teeth... That's like a doctor suggesting to cut off the second limb when you lose one arm saying it would give better disability benefits

I really need my teeth done so bad. I need a dentist like her. She knows what she's talking about. My old dentist messed with teeth that didn't need messed with. I have tooth aches where I can't do anything think, eat, drink, sleep. Sucks so bad. I just want my whole mouth done

I had a dead front tooth for 5+ years, with a silent infection that was fissuring out above my gum. I declined root canal as they can lead to more silent infection dripping toxins into blood stream. I opted for tooth removal and a maryland bridge. The Maryland bridge doesn't shave down surrounding teeth, they cement to the surrounding teeth. Had it for 3 yrs until it failed and broke. It also moved my surrounding teeth slightly. After it broke I decided to get a zarconian implant as I didn't want my bridge to break every three yrs. The ceramic implant is metal free, which some ppl prefer. If your bone has grown back, It takes 3 months for the post to set into bone, while wearing a comfortable clear teeth guard to protect site. Then a crown to be placed on top. I'm about to get my crown put on soon!

The flipper was a complete waste of money,
I couldn't talk proper or eat with it, decided not to wear, and went for bridge. The bridge bought me time to save up, I'm glad I didn't shave my other teeth down.

Another thing I did was have my blood drawn to make a platelet rich plasma cube to be placed in my tooth site after it was removed instead of cadaver or cow bone grafting matrix. Preferred my own cells going into my body.

Also my dentist told me after cleaning out the infection, that it was quite large and that a root canal wouldn't have been a good choice because of it.
Hope this helps anyone. It's a highly emotional situation, so know what you want before going and research so don't end up with what ever they suggest.

Thanks for explaining all the options with the pros and cons for each.I agree the implant option is the best, unfortunately it's out of reach financially for most people.

My top left second molar had to be extracted today. My dentist did give me the option to get a root canal, but he said he does not recommend it because the structure of the tooth is compromised. Unfortunately, insurance doesn't usually cover implants, which includes bone grafts. I plan on getting an implant, so I ended up getting a bone graft after the extraction. So far, I'm out of pocket $600 for the bone graft. The implant and crown will probably cost another $4000 on top of the $600 I already spent for the bone graft. In the end, it's worth it to me. As for my top right second molar, I'm scheduled to get a root canal on that tooth next Monday. Thankfully, that one can be saved. My oral hygiene is immaculate now, considering how much this is all costing me.

The unfortunate part about implants is not covered by most dental insurances in the US, and the cost is prohibitively expensive for most people, even at the dental school clinics.

I’m glad that you mentioned that not all people are candidates for implants and the best option for them are bridges. I was one of those people because I have autoimmune conditions, and there would be a significant chance of my body rejecting the implant.

An option I‘ve been missing are Maryland bridges which are simple and minimally invasive (so the disadvantages of conventional bridges are minimalized) yet really aesthetic and long lasting if they are well made. These might be a smart alternative for patients considering getting an implant…

$6k for implant (one tooth) and that’s just my portion to pay after insurance. Looks like I will be living without a tooth!

This was super helpful. I still have the tooth, I MUST decide today. So concerned about the root canal. :(

It's crazy how expensive this procedure is. I wish that all my bottom teeth were implemented. My top doesn't bother me. Brushing my teeth too hard turned out to be a mistake that I found out too late. But that's the way I was taught to brush them when I was young.

I am jealous to the people that you take care of, you seem like an amazing dentist! I've lost multiple teeth (2-4) due to bike crash when I was around 14 and a lot of others got damaged, but since my dentist is kind of useless and didn't take care of the damaged ones (I am 20 now and she basically didn't do anything till now), I've lost 2 front teeth and I hate my looks so much, I would love to have you as a dentist if I was from the same country, you seem like a sweet, talented and amazing person! ❤
