Today we’re going to talk about coffee and how much coffee is too much. A moderate amount of coffee would be about 2-3 8oz. cups per day. A high amount of coffee would be 4 or more 8oz. cups per day.

The biggest negative effect that coffee has on your body is the depletion of potassium. Many different things can occur from a potassium deficiency, from heart arrhythmias to fatigue and much more.

What could happen if you have too much caffeine:
• It can increase the release of catecholamines (adrenaline)
• It can increase the sodium-potassium pump
• It can increase diuresis (you’re losing fluid)
• It can trigger respiratory alkalosis
• If you add sugar or artificial sweetener to your coffee, you can spike insulin and deplete potassium

If you drink a little bit too much coffee, make sure you add more potassium to your diet. But, the best thing to do may be to have a small amount of coffee each day.

I was a 3 cup a day coffee drinker and went cold turkey 8 weeks ago, it wasn't a fun transition but I finally adjusted and glad to say I am finally free from it. I did the same with sugar, carbs, porn, and social media. I am using YouTube though now tho to keep up with stuff like this. Thank you Dr Berg for helping me to get where I am at and to where I am heading.

I have been listening to Dr. Berg for a number of years now. I am realizing that he learned a whole lot in college on top of his regular studies. He has gone through overdoses of coffee and lack of sleep, etc. He had these problems and he now realizes that they are problems that all of go through, so this is why his program is so important to watch, because he knows for a fact, he's been there and done that. Thank you very much Dr. Berg.

Recently I started drinking more coffee as a nervous habit and the heart palpitations started. I cut back to 2 cups of caffeinated coffee per day and after a week the palpitations almost stopped. Thanks Doc!

I've gone completely decaf with butter and MCT oil. My body is way too sensitive for caffeine. This is working much better for me.

For the metric people out there: 32 oz = (slightly more than) 1 litre, 16 oz = (slightly more than) 500 ml, 8 oz = 250 ml.

A lot of my friends who are health gurus talk about how coffee is bad. I love it for when I'm working though especially because I do mostly brain centered work. Interesting about depletion of potassium did not know that

Your timing is perfect Dr Berg. Two days ago I started to reduce my coffee consumption by half (headaches each morning). After a few days I will reduce again by half. I hope to get down to no more than 8 oz per day and be flexible enough to skip a day once in a while. I'm pretty sure coffee, as much as I love it, is the root cause of quite a few of my problems. I've accomplished many things, I can do this too.
