Hope they can invent Uranium fuel for cars. Imagine driving for 30 years without refueling.

Best sub movie ever the hunt for Red October a book first, but they did a good job with the movie

The amazing thing is that these nuclear subs are literally steam-powered. The reactor heats up water and creates steam to turn propulsion turbines and electric generators. The only reason they have to resurface is to get food and supplies for the crew. I imagine that many of the best funded militaries have nuclear powered subs that are drones or have a crew of just a few sailors that can stay submerged for years.

Its crucial for a subamarine to be as quiet as possible. This is a metallica concert under the water

I want to recreate this sub as a submersible rc with full working front and rear propulsion systems. Just like the actual submarine. That, and two working vertical missiles... still need to figure out torpedo systems. I'm still doing research, but it'll come to fruition sometime soon, I hope.

Guys imagine a sub with auto pilot system this size. Where one can take your wife and two children during an apocalypse and remain under water for 30 years

It also had a small splash pool for the crew.

The TYPHOON loses much of whatever tactical edge it may possess because it is very noisy in the open, non-arctic oceans. Sonar can track it for miles.

With this nuclear technology all energy problems on earth could be solved...
Instead we're building windparks.

They are so expensive, and big, only 6 were completed, 7 were planned, all retired .

The only time they have to surface is when they run out of coffee for the crew

We don't need anything like that on earth

They do not require refueling. Impressive even though they sink.

“Can be” needs to be replaced with “were” & “was”. The last one was retired this year. Too loud & too detectable.

The Typhoon class, Soviet designation Project 941 Akula (Russian: "shark",  NATO reporting name Typhoon), is a class of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines designed and built by the Soviet Union for the Soviet Navy. The Russian Navy cancelled its Typhoon modernization program in March 2012, stating that modernizing one Typhoon would be as expensive as building two new Borei-class submarines. With the announcement that Russia has eliminated the last R-39 Rif (SS-N-20 Sturgeon) SLBMs in September 2012, only one Typhoon remained in service, Dmitriy Donskoi, which refitted with the more modern RSM-56 Bulava SLBM for testing. She continued to serve until February 2023, when she was decommissioned.
