Tajikistan Hijab Ban: Reasons Behind the Decision in a 90% Muslim Population Nation

After years of unofficial restrictions on religious clothing, the Tajikistan government has officially banned the wearing of the hijab. The bill was passed by the lower house of Parliament (the Majlisi Namoyandagon) on May 8 and approved by the upper house (the Majlisi Milli) on June 19, following Eid celebrations. This move legally enforces President Emomali Rahmon's characterization of the hijab as “foreign clothing.”

If it was France it will be called islamophobia but when it is a Muslim country they are all mute.

We tajiks, are Eatern Iranic people. We have beautiful culture, thousands year of history! The second important book in Islam after Quran, was written by Bukhari(who was tajik by ethnicity from Bukhara). Our ancestors contributed to Islamic development more than anybody. But just because we don’t have Oil, doesn’t mean we should became an Arab. We have our own beautiful traditional clothes, and headscarf(which is not burqa). Women are respectful and loved in my culture, but Arabism impact(bcs of Oil money they got) becomes so strong, they people unconsciously want to abandon their own culture, traditions and sometimes even the language! Of course our government will fight against it!!!

May Allah help the muslims of Tajikistan. I live in the U.S where my right to religion is secure and safe. All praise is to Allah swt, he tests those with good and bad, but at the end everyone will return to him.

Hijab is not necessary in Islam. It's an specific mind set who prefer for their females.
I acknowledge the decision and step ahead for the betterment of the country.

This is a difficult issue. As a Christian, I agree that encouraging Islamization of a country is bad. I am against enforcing the hijab.

Yet I see preventing it in public as a problematic human rights issue: At times in the West, scarves are at times popular for fashion reasons.
Since even one hair out from a hijab threatens Sunni women with 40, 000 years in hell, it is a serious issue for women of that faith. Many will shed the hijab with confidence. since it is now the standard. But many will be forced to stay at home to guard what they see as their eternal state. Other faiths, such as Christianity, will likely also be restricted - probably already are.

Jesus said that if we follow his teaching "the truth will set us free." I wish that freedom for Tajikistan.
