I highly suggest doing a night at a monastery in koyasan. The birth place of Japanese Buddhism. Nothing like anywhere I have traveled. Moss covered tombstones intertwine with larger camphor trees walking to the temple in the center.

Arashiyama is probably one of the best places in the world for me. I have been twice and would go back in a heartbeat.

Plz try going to smaller cities in Japan! You’ll really find the beauty of Japan there since Japan itself is a country rich of culture and history. But ofc, if it’s your first time going then Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto are a must.

I did 6 days in Tokyo, 3 in kyoto nd 2 in osaka. The last two cities definitely felt rushed. I hated how fast we were hoping from one place to another. I would suggest to focus on 2 cities as a base from where you travel or at least to not overcrowd your schedule with moving, especially on the last days. We walked 20k steps each day trying to take everything in and it felt like a race for time. we were there 10 days

Awesome! This is very close to my itinerary! But we will be spending 3 days in Osaka and 5 days in Kyoto. Only because I am in love with Kyoto!

Did all this in 10 days. Honestly, Tokyo itself could be a 10-14 day trip. Was able to explore almost all of it in 4 days but wouldn't recommend unless walking 15-20 miles a day is your thing.

You could easily take a quick day trip to Nara from Osaka, it's like an hour away. Quick and easy. Could also easily make a 10-14 day trip of the entire Kansai region (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nara). Also took a day trip to Fujiyoshida and that was awesome. Clear skies of Mt. Fuji and great view at the famed Chureito Pagoda

Really wish I stayed in Arashiyama more. Partly cause I stayed in a ryokan with multiple private onsen but just the area is too beautiful

Tokyo is so amazing. I spent every waking moment cramming as many activities as I could and I left with so much left to see.

I can’t wait! My partner and I are going in two months and doing a similar itinary (3 weeks in Japan and 1 week in Hong Kong as well to see where my partner grew up). It will be my first time travelling outside Australia and NZ!

Such beautiful locations! I wish I could visit these beautiful places! I'm Ohio, the only places of beauty I get are Marblehead Lighthouse and a reservoir during my walks during summer. Even these small places during sunset can be gorgeous!!!
