That plane is so sharp the boards turn square just by pointing it at them

I've seen your name brought up countless times over the years in human-powered woodworking discussions but never saw any of your instructional output until recently. Since then, you've become a favorite. Many kudos and thanks to you sir!

If this guy taught me woodworking at school, I'd probably be a carpenter.

That video took me straight back to my HS manual arts class 55 years ago. I loved those “modern” metal planes but was equally happy using the old wooden block variety. Years later the same kind of thing happened with microtones for cutting human tissue sections. It is amazing how early skills can and do progress.

I remember doing this in shop class. After 3 days and like maybe 1 kid getting his board square. The teacher showed us the quick way to do it with the table saw!

Which apprentice prepared that board for you??

Actually very useful, I can't plane square to save my life

Different strokes, etc...
My late Dad was a cabinet-maker before his trade died in the 1950s. The iron in his jointing plane was always ground to a very slight curve. If the board seemed out of square, he moved the plane sideways to alter the angle by an almost microscopic amount. He showed me how to do it, but I never mastered his technique.

I do similar, but I use my fingers to guide the plane along the edge, even a little farther overhanging.
