How Long Can a 12V Battery Run a TV? - 12V 100Ah Lithium

In this video, I talk about powering your TV off-grid, focusing on the efficiency and duration you can expect from a 12V lithium battery. Ever wondered, how long can a 12V battery run a TV? or more specific, How long can a 12V lithium battery run a TV? You're in the right place.

I'll break down the math for a 12V 100Ah lithium (LiFePO4) battery. Answering questions like: how many hours does a 100Ah battery last powering a television?

Starting with a simple walkthrough, I'll guide you through finding your TV's power consumption, whether through the label on the back, the manual, online resources, or an energy consumption meter—making sure you're equipped to do this calculation yourself. From there, we'll explore not just the active power consumption but also the often-overlooked aspects like idle consumption and the efficiency of the inverter, which are key factors that impact how long your battery can keep the TV running.

I'll do all the calculations, showing you how to account for everything from the TV's consumption to the inverter's efficiency and finally to the total usable energy in your 12V lithium or lead acid battery. Focusing on practical advice, I'll even share a tip that could significantly extend your battery life and efficiency by opting for a DC-to-DC converter over a traditional inverter setup, potentially offering up to 35% more viewing time.

I have two 22" and 23" 12-volt tv's. I skip the inverter and don't need a buck inverter. The first TV is a Sylvox 4K smart TV, which uses 23 watts, and the second is a Pyle 1080 TV, which uses 20 watts. I bought them on Amazon. I really like your book.

Waoo ! Am glad to have found your channel. Know these practical calculations of real life solar energy usage situations, sets you apart from other channels. Please keep it up.

More important is "will the solar panels keep up with the electrical demand?" If you have 1200 watt hours to use, then you have 1200Wh (+20%) to put back into the battery before you have another battery full of TV watching. If the solar harvest isn't sufficient then it's not the battery but the recharging that's the problem.

I'm actually look at running a 12V Diesel Heater in our van. It looks like it's 5000W, which seems crazy. Could you do a video on the diesel heaters traditionally used in van conversions? Thanks!

To calculate run time you should divide Watt hours by Watts and result will be in hours

What a channel with such useful content! Thank you! So rare to find information of this nature on the internet!
Quick question: If the TV has a 12v adapter output, then that's better, right? Because there is no need to connect the inverter.
I was thinking of buying a TV with an power consumption of 36W - with a 12v adapter (so there is no need to connect the inverter), is that too much power for a lithium battery? Should I look for a TV with a lower output wattage?
Thanks for your help!

i get about 15 minutes with my old 12v lead acid 120ah ( i mean doesn't hold charge old ) leisure battery wired into an old 400w max ups whose original battery had died on a 140 to 200w pc depending on graphic card use . . I think my ups is not designed for long high loads without fan cooling . But i live very rurally and daily brief power cuts are common so this is all i need . Don't forget to plug the router in the ups either as often phone lines are ok when power down .

My TV is A RCA 12 v. All i did was buy a lead that fitted the TV plug and had a male 12v socket on the other end. I installed a 12 female socket cloce by the TV. So far, no but how efficient this is, i am not sure. Could you comment, please.

0:44 is it true that the PWM charger controller damages your battery?

I have a question off topic regarding inverters and battery size.
In my travel trailer, i have two 100 amp lithium batteries...12 v.
What size inverter can i install.
I am looking to run a mircowave say 800 to 1000 watts, a tv, an induction plate, and some led lights. Likly not all at the same time.
I do not wish to drain the batteries too quickly... what is the best comprised, size wise for the inverter.

Thanks for the quality videos and pdf designs. Please make diagram for off-grid solar lithium powered cabin that can run small window unit air conditioner(dc/ ac ?}, fridge(I am considering a 12vdc compressor mid size one), minimal microwave use,
modern tv, micro pc, modem/router, low draw security camera with NVR, , and a few led lights.

Hi, im trying to figure out how long will a 12v 100ah lithium battery charge a phone for... Will the wh increase with a lower volt load? 5v 20watts from a 12v battery?

I think any battery can be a long range depending on how much Amperage in reserve that want if we do buy one, like a 12v 60amp would be a long range for an ebike/escooter

Nice and clear, can you please make a video how to make an off grid solar system without a battery to use an AC air pump of 180 watts 220 volts. System needs only to run when the sun shines to add more air in my fish pond.
