It makes me happy because we can hardcode everything in the browser (javascript), not having to use a "third party" program to do so. I love it because I started a little bit with ActionScript and Flash before I moved away from that and over to HTML and JS. My teacher, a flash veteran, started the school semester by saying that we are going to learn Javascript because Flash is about to die. I dont WANT flash to die, but I like to see change in the browser.

No, I can't even imagine coding from a tablet or mobile phone, but the idea behind it is fantastic! Users can still access Flash content. It is the developers that have to step in and convert. Adobe has already developed a tool to convert flash to HTML5. It's only a matter of conversion. I love having this conversation with you, I really do ( :) ), but I think that Adobe has already though out a way to use HTML5 as the new standard for browser content. :)

html5 is awesome but i juts got started on coding and everything and you have to be really patient and have determination to develop a great website and other stuff with this beatiful language and it has denitely simplified things this time.

Nice, been waiting for data binding in the browser for about a decade. Also, all the CSS stuff looks great.

I'm an Actionscripter, yes. What about you? What experience do you have with Flash? Have you ever been to Newgrounds and seen the dedication people have to it?

Flash is that awesome. Do you have any idea how much Internet culture is deeply ingrained in Flash? How many animators have poured their hearts into making animated Flash series? How many popular Flash games have been made over the years using the 12 different versions of Flash and Actionscript 1, 2, and 3? How many of the most popular mobile apps started out as Flash but then had to be rewritten because the phones don't support it? It makes me sad to see Flash tossed out so callously.

23:05 - For the nesting/heirarchy, why not introduce a more familiar [at]using directive instead of the ampersand syntax:

(Note: use curly braces instead of brackets, replace [at] with "at" sign)

.slide.image [
background-repeat: no-repeat;
]

[at]using .slide.image [
.credit [ ]
.counter [ ]
section [ ]
]

The 3 people that gave thumbs down probably don't even know what html5 is.

I have made up my mind. I'm tired of having to use plugins for every browser I use to view video and audio content. I therefor, would like to see what the future brings of new ways to view this content. Another thing is that you cannot have a monopolies on a coding language (Javascript and HTML5). When the big boys (Google and Apple) chooses to go away from flash, they probably have a good reason for it. Even Javascript has it's limitations, so (continue in next reply)

I don’ have a high opinion about JavaScript and really wish I don’t have to deal with it (except for bare minimum), but with HTML5 taking center stage, I am afraid I have no choice but go with it. It’s like a nightmare comes true.

I do know that flash has evolved, but I think it's a good call to develop HTML5. Javascript and HTML5 can be developed from even a mobile phone or Tablet! Can flash do that? As far as I know you need Adobe Flash or a similar software?

because programming and css has never been about verbosity. The first version of css kinda defined the future of it. You will not see much syntax change because of backward compatibility for older and other browsers, most notably IE

(see previous reply before this one). Even Javascript has it's limitations, so Goolge is making the programming language DART. Is that wrong? To advance so that they can make the web better? Or is that change for the sake of change?

also dreamweaver cs6 is also cool for coding html5 :)

It will be converted to a "better format" in plain code that the browser can use. May I ask, do you have any experience in coding for the web/coding in flash?

thomasdarvik

Yes, I think they have the right to do this, because those "few" nerds are also developers that know that HTML5 can replace Flash. And it's not just change for the sake of change, because HTML5 can be developed even more then flash, and not many (including Google and Apple) would like Adobe to control every video and game experience on the web. :)

What should be next is getting this video to play.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, Firefox 6.0.2 Stable and have joined the Youtube HTML5 test, this video does not play.
I have these add-ons installed, Adblockplus, Request Policy and Quick Java with Flash disabled if it makes a difference. :shrugs:
