I also don't understand why this happens. In iOS, videos buffer immediately. Vimeo's HTML5 player works just as well as the Flash version.

I can understand the need for more features in the HTML5 player, especially adaptive streaming, subtitles and overlays, which can vary from super-handy to intrusive to ads (yuck!). Just hope the full screen implementation gets standardized soon. The way they made "m.youtube" work in iOS now is simply incomplete and breaks the beautiful native IU.

P.S.: Even the YouTube team gets annoyed with the way ads are presented today. 51:54

Thanks guys, very useful. But please don't put pointless "self closing" slashes at the end of HTML tags. :-)

HTML 5 is NOT ready for production code. Too many issues, too inconsistently implemented. Google, before you profess and promote, preach to those about consistency and completeness.
