🤓How do microgreens grown Indoors using alternative lighting such as LED lights compare to those grown Outdoors using Natural sunlight!?

➡️In this new experiment we grow 2-trays of Daikon Radish Microgreens in the Sun (for the first time) and compare it to 2-trays grown under 6 of our favorite 20watt LED lights inside of our grow space! We saw some drastic differences in the Appearance, Taste, and Growth of the groups - which we discuss in detail in this video!

The outdoor is the winner. The fact that it was more crunchy and substantially more flavorable & spicy is a clear indication of higher nutrient density.

very informative video! I was interested because im growing outdoors only! in South Texas it would be a shame to not take advantage of the sun for once!

Leave it to you guys to come up with another amazing test. Now I know that sunlight makes a big difference in flavor. Interesting that the gross production weight slightly favored the indoor crop. I suppose the only way to get the sun's light without exposure to bugs and pests would be a greenhouse. Thanks for the great and informative videos!

Microgreens are one crop that would do well grown indoors. To say which is the best method would depend on the situation. I don't set my wheatgrass outdoors because of bugs. A shade house or greenhouse might be a best of both worlds.

Also the temp change between night and day will have a greater effect on taste. Temperature variation is what gives many vegetables their flavour

As a garnish I wonder if chefs would prefer the outdoor group due to more flavor with less product required, but especially due to more color. I guess it depends on the need or application of the customer. Great video!

Thank you for this video. I live in San Diego and grow mine on my second floor apartment patio and have tremendous success. I have so many micrgreens I am going to start giving them away. I bought 5 small trays and I have all 5 in production at all times. Growing microgreens is very, very satisfying.

I flinched when you said top-water lol, thought it was April fool's. This is great! This gives me the courage to try growing microgreens in my window seal

Great experiment.! Have u tried growing under solar charged lamps instead of led
Also what about vitamin d and chlorophyll contents comparison.
Its great experiment for new age .especially in cold countries or also may be where there is desert or too much sunlight ..
Sunlight also gives energy that is different from led just like how different we feel when we sit under sun or in home LEDs !!:-)
Great.!!liked comparisons

I just put down some radish greens outside. I put a handful of seeds in about two inches of dirt in a turkey baster tray.

Great video guys! Regarding the more purple color in the outdoor grown batch, did you happen to track what the overnight temps were during the grow period? I’ve been fooling around with lowering temps for radish, mustards, kohlrabi, and other microgreens that have the purple and red color. I’m finding that they exhibit more of that nice coloring when the temperature is lowered to 60-65F overnight. Any thoughts?

This is a really cool experiment! I wonder if you could get the weight back with an extra day of blackout? Or maybe with some row cover (with the added benefit of insect protection)? I get that you lose something from leaving the controlled environment but for the home grower, the electrical and space savings would be nice!

Greetings from Oregon! I’m grateful for the information/education I’ve gotten from you both; you are the most professional source I know online and beyond!
Could you please comment on the details of your outdoor MG grow?; environment, , covered:no cover, etc? Also, re top watering...? Throughout the grow period? How do they not collapse, mist? Thank you.
