Does the http service from firebase mean that you can use it to host your node js application but still use a different database as a service for eg) mongodb mlab?

Hi Max, I'm building a Vue + Firebase application and I came to the point where a user can invite other users (email addresses) to his team. Ofcourse it might happen that the email address which the invite has been sent to, is not registered as a user yet. My plan was: on submit invite => send a mail to the user asking to register or login and some info about the team. Also store a record in the invite collection of my database with team and email address stored in the same doc. Whenever a user logs in or registers => check the invite collection of the database with Vuex and link the user to a team accordingly. Now with these cloud functions, this might be a better way to tackle this problem? What do you think? Thx

I work in vfx industry that generates movie content, and since companies into vfx are not interested exposing the content and data related to content to the domain outside the organisation, firebase cannot help although it does offer good solution, can you suggest anything like firebase can work inside the organisation domain ?
