Cloud Functions for Firebase lets you run your backend code that automatically responds to events triggered by Firebase features and HTTPS requests. The code is stored in Google’s cloud, and runs in a managed environment. No need to manage and scale your own servers.

As a long-time Firebase developer this is fantastic news. While Firebase has always been an awesome prototyping and PoC tool, without server-side code I'd hesitated using it for a complete production app. With Cloud Functions Firebase is now a complete develoment system for realtime end-to-end app development. Many thanks to the team who have clearly listened to developers on this one and removed Firebase's only significant obstacle to adoption. With better querying tools on the way (aggregation please!) Firebase is now officially my go-to backend for new projects! :)

That's absolutely brilliant, you guys made Firebase an all in one hub for managing and maintaining mobile - backend communication without the need for third party servers and people to maintain it, with simple node js code, that's cost effective and fast, thank you :)
