The Tesla Cybertruck - insane or awesome? Autogefühl

We could not attend the Tesla Cybertruck presentation, so here are the basic facts and some thoughts on this all-new EV pickup truck. A couple of days after the reveal, the reservation figure was already 150.000 + so it seems to work once again for Tesla!

Towing capacity: More than 14, 000 lbs
Payload: Up to 3, 500 lbs
Vault length: 6.5 feet
Storage capacity: 100 cubic feet of exterior, lockable storage including the vault, frunk, and sail pillars.
Suspension: 4” in either direction
Touchscreen size: 17”
Body: Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless steel.
Seating capacity: Up to six adults
Charging: Can be charged at home, at Destination Charging locations, and at more than 14, 000 Superchargers, including V3 technology, which is helpful for long hauls and towing.

Cybertruck measures 588, 5 x 202, 6 x 190, 5 cm. Wheelbase = 381 cm. Bed or Vault = 198 cm. Weight similar to a comparable F150

Thanks for your considered commentary on the Tesla film, Thomas. My views are as non-committal as yours!  But if it's eco and 'green' (nothing is 'green'!) - the extinction rebellion and Greta-folk will be very upset, because they like to slag big trucks and 'Life Style Vehicles', but won't be able to properly slag this big new EV thing.

The design is a consequence of the material they are using. Space grade 3mm thick stainless steel simply can't be bent into round shapes. For the prototype, they had to score the back of the panels quite deep at every bend. Musk said they'll have to invent a press strong enough to fold the thing quickly. That is the hardest part, the rest is really easy and should be a A LOT cheaper to make than any other pickup truck.

Both for the occupants but more over motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians and even other cars + occupants!
Cars are designed to crumple, to absorb impacts, can you imagine being a motorcyclist when this pulls out in front of you?

The glass is actually very solid when it’s closed but it was slightly open because of the harmer punch on the door, that’s why it break.

If you think about the styling things actually make sense. The flat front is what you’d find on any pickup. The roof doesn’t need to be flat and this shape makes a higher retractable tonneau look good so you can contain more cargo. That about explains everything that makes it different from a regular pickup. Looking at it this way, this is a mint design.

The design is how they make the car affordable. They can use XY design which means instead of using expensive stamping and assembly they can laser cut and bend the body from a sheet of steel. This is how they get to the 39K price. Plus take out the gas cost difference of $100/month and it's a better deal than an F-150.

XY design has been discussed in the industry for years, glad Tesla decided to make it happen.

edit: Just wanted to specify this is twice the size of a model Y at the same price, this is where the innovation is

I already ordered dual motor, love it. This is a car for a lifetime. My brother is a metallurgist and he says that this structure should last ~70-80 years without any corrosion... everything else you can fix or replace. Huge battery with outlet, you can plug anything you want and have huge powerbank, even for a house especially with PV system... compressor is just extra ;).
