Are you terrified of skulling the ball over the green, or maybe the dreaded chunk shot on on a really tight lie from 40 yards? You’re not alone!

Today I’m going to give you two simple steps in your pitching motion that are going to give you the confidence and the consistency you’ve been searching for.

I'm Sam Vosler, lead golf coach for the Sanford Power Golf Academy and with my good friends at USGolfTV and we are going to discuss the fear behind these mid-range pitch shots.

The masses of golfers have a fear of the 40 yd pitch shot.

Club selection -prefer less loft

1. Low and wide arc -lengthen your flat spot more margin for error if you do this (think of a plane landing)-bruise or nip the grass

2. Head turns toward the target and leads the arms-this is going to help you rotate mini pivot-head shouldn’t stay still

Common Mistakes

- Too much hinge-dig lead with handle

- Head stays down-no rotation

Follow this simple instruction and you'll be on your way to better pitch shots in no time!

Great suggestion for the 40 yard pitch shot! This shot has really been plaguing me! Most of the time I pull the shot and/or hit it short. As your video suggested, it's probably because I play the shot with too much wrist hinge. I'll definitely try your shallow approach to the shot and rotate the body more!

I’ve got a 52°, 54°, & 60°. Which do you suggest for these 40-60 yards shots?

I must try this, I end up ooverbinging wrists and coming in too steep, obsessed with hit down to hit up, then I start digging in with bounce, worse with more lofted clubs, I guess it's like a big pudding basin with you in middle scraping the bowl, and being flat at impact, right at bottom centre of bowl

Completely depends on conditions and lie. Sometimes steep with lots of hinge gets the spin rate up. Great when you're short-sided or facing a sloping away green

Guarantee 75% of the reason people hit pitch shots fat is because they have all of their weight on their back foot. Your weight should be more towards the target.
