How to Turn On and Off Steering Assist | Toyota

This Quick Reference Guide will provide a clear definition and step by step details on how to enable and disable Lane Departure Alert (LDA) Steering Assist.

Lane Departure Alert is designed to read visible lane markers under certain conditions, and provide visual and audible alerts when lane departure is detected. When the system determines that the vehicle might depart from its lane, the system provides assistance as necessary by operating the steering wheel in small amounts for a short period of time to keep the vehicle in its visibly marked lane.

It is not a collision-avoidance system or a substitute for safe and attentive driving. Effectiveness is dependent on many factors including road, weather and vehicle conditions.

See Owner's Manual for additional limitations and details.

Although demonstrated on the 2018 Toyota Camry, this feature is available on various other 2018 Toyota models.

Steering assist has to be one of the most dangerous safety features I've ever seen. Do people even test this stuff before they release it?

Dear Toyota - I just bought a 2022 Avalon Touring - There is not option under that menu to turn off Steering assist - i would like to disable it as i was able to on my 2019 CamryXSE, the steering assist appears to work even when the cruise control isn't active. I have lane tracing turned off but no option to turn off steering assist.

I turned off steering assist on my 2018 Sienna, but it still beeps when I cross the line, which I do intentionally. How do I turn that sound off?

Did all that and my 22 Avalon still wants to drive itself. I guess I'm going to the dealer for an answer, or it's getting traded in for something completely different and more user friendly..

I can't seem to find it on 2016 RAV4 XLE nor can I find the navigation system

I had to dislike this video because I had to displace my frustration somewhere lol. This feature is trash, not useful, cannot believe my car tries to drive itself on the freeway without any warnings. Anyone who has driven for 10+ years will likely HATE this feature. Please share your experiences with me if you agree or disagree.

The steering “assist” is THEE most idiotic “safety” idea ever. It’s unnecessary and dangerous.

Struggling with this. There's nothing in the index of my Yaris manual under the letter L.

My car steers itself. Scary! My car just about completed a hard right turn without me touching the steering wheel. I would prefer the older model without this added feature!🤐😬😶

This feature is super dangerous and the opposite of a safety feature. You should remove this from all vehicles.

Toyota has quit making products customers want and instead have created internal goals for themselves which require building stupid features like this and like the ridiculous engine start and stop. I will not be buying a Toyota. I don't want a hybrid and I don't want a CVT transmission or active cylinder management either (Honda). I want a simple car that will allow me to drive it; I don't need Toyota to drive the car for me. I also want a car that any mechanic can work on. I don't want to have to service it at the dealer because nobody wants to touch the thing.
